What do you most remember about them? What commonalities?
I was treated by Dr. Mirkin way back in middle school for Osgood-Schlatter's, and went to school with his kids. He was very much into distance running, and loved to talk about my training and racing. He regretted pushing his son Jean hard into distance running at an early age. I seem to remember Jean setting a number of age group world records in distance events. He never ran past middle school though, and didn't compete for our high school. Sad ending to a talented kid who got burnt out.

Read and studied most of them. While at a clinic in the mid to late 70's I got into an argument with Sheehan who previously had been something of an idol of mine. We talked about my conversations with Cerutty and I pointed out the importance of weight training and core strength for distance runners. In front of the group, George replied "Weights are important for cross country.....skiers" and then laughed and said something to the effect that anything but running isn't beneficial to running.
