im a pretty good runner. im usually towards the top (ive gotten 2nd and 5th in state) for my first two years, im going to be a junior. the thing is i want to get better and i find that i am not. im wary of high mileage because i dont want to get injured (im skinny, and have gotten injrued before), and if i do too too much intensity i get overtrained and my legs feel like bricks. can someone give me an example of a training plan to get to the next level where the really good girl runners are? heres an example of what i do now.
mon- am: 30 min cross train (elliptical or swimming laps)
pm: 4 mile tempo run (with warm up and cool down)
tues- 6 mile easy run (7;10 pace) and strides
wed- am: 30 min cross train
pm: intervals such as 16x400 w 90 sec rest or 8x800 w 2 minute rest
thurs- 6 mile easy run
friday- am: 30 min cross train
pm: fartlek workout
sat- long run easy 9 miles
sun- off or easy ellipticalling
OR i will do a Long run monday and do tempo for the last 1/3 of it, then easy tuesday, workout wednesday with the cross training in the am, easy thurs and fri, another workout saturday with the cross training in the am, and off or easy ellipticalling sunday.
i hope this made sense. btw my current prs are 10:37 5:01 2:15 and 17:01 for xc. if theres anything i can add that would help you understand more please ask.
