He is coming off a 61 and 62 minute half. 2:08 might be aggressive, but I'll be watching for him in the results for Chicago.
Where does it say that? At any rate, according to his website, he looks like he's quite good.
Perhaps not 2:08 good, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility with a 61:47 half. Probably more likely around 2:11-2:13.
he'll be running ultra's by 2017
He seems like a Brian Sell type, possibly could run 2:10ish.
I say there is no way in hell he breaks 2:12.
61 for a half is nowhere near 2:08 for the marathon
someone had to do it. wrote:

He's already a minute faster than Brian Sell at HM.
“If you look at results from Chicago over the years, there is a rich history of strong debut marathons, which is a testament to the favorable weather conditions, immense crowd support, and the fast nature of the course,” Llano said. “My goal is not only to add myself to the storied tradition of Chicago greatness, but if I’m feeling exceptionally good, I wouldn’t put Ryan Hall’s American Marathon Debut record of 2:08:24 out of my reach.”

Good for him! I'm pumped he's going to go for it.
Proudly and openly gay. Good for him!
They guy is talking like he's anyone. He's had 1-2 good races EVER. Go ahead and try to run 2:08, but shut up until you've done anything to indicate that's even close to possible.
Matt is a great guy. He puts a lot of time into the Flagstaff community, trains his ass off, and is setting the bar high for his debut marathon. Good on you Matt, we wish you all the best.
I know a really good friend of Matt's and have been following him for around 5 years now. Great athlete and from what I understand, great guy too.
He went to the same high school as Centrowitz in Maryland (Broadneck).
Matt also is the first openly gay distance runner that we know of:
I hope he does it! Great guy and competitor...

If an African runner with a 61:50 min half ran 2:08, nobody'd bat an eye. It's only hard to believe in the context of America's bizarre lack of depth in the event.
PS What's wrong with driving a little interest pre-race?
there's a young lady who used to tear up the roads & track just as well as Llano, but she wasn't quite as open about it as he is, but she didn't hide it either. Don't think she runs much anymore, but could be wrong.
Did Salazar run faster than 61:47 for a half? Of course, we have a lot of current 61 guys and just three 2:08 guys.

The words "that we know of" are not really necessary because there cannot be two "first openly gay" because another one would be the second, not the first.
Come to think of it, was your entire comment really necessary?
Did he come out before these two?
Llano should ask Malmo about how that low 61 equates to a 2:08. But best of luck to the guy.
