What is the last day athletes/countries have to register for the World X-Country Championships. Hopefully its not like the USA X-Country were you can wait til race day. I'm interested in seeing if Kenenisa's name will be listed at all or tentative on the Ethiopian Squad. |

ethio boy, if you ever see her race you can ask her if she knows douglas burke, i wont give her contact information, so other than you asking her, i cant prove i know her. |

Doug.. didn't ask to question.. whether it was true or not.. just wondered how you met her etc, Big fan of tiny Bizu.. can't wait for her to run a marathon because she struggles on the track. she starts out the season well but seems to fade. |

doug why do you continue to talk about Biz on this thread? She doesn't have a very good chance on being the best female Ethiopian. This thread is pertaining to Kenenisa Bekele. |

hopefully "china" will be running in china, i agree the marathon will be her best event, but she has to be under 3030 for 10k to be a factor at the global level medalwise in the marathon. |

I agree with previous posters that talking about another athlete is off topic and poor taste. It seems Doug has to mentioned his favorite athlete on this thread because he like his favorite athlete will never be a winner! Kenny B is the subject of this thing or maybe Doug can't read to comprehend. |

vipam, as to your question about when athletes have to declare for world cross the usa athletes have to declare by february 15th 5 days after the usa trials, but that cant be the date as the de-facto ethiopian trials jan meda are after that, and runners like keninisa bekele do not have to run the trials, k. bekele will run any race he wants and i expect him to change his mind and run world cross. not that it would happen, but i would bet if keninisa bekele wanted to run the london marathon and only gave race director dave bedford 2 hours notice, i bet bedford would scramble like crazy to get him in, same with millrose, keninisa runs where, when and what races he wants. vipam i am surprised you are upset i mentioned a developing athlete in your thread, if she were american with her times the boards would be going crazy about her. anyway i will try to respond to comments on this thread from now on. |

doug With the Championships being held in Kenya I would think they would be very strict on the deadline in regards to Kenenisa Bekele. Honestly I don't think the want him to run as they have to conclude Kenya have no answer for him in X-Country. ... Valencia and Birmingham, the current extent of Bekele’s indoor ambitions Wednesday 31 January 2007 Kenenisa Bekele, who not forgetting his numerous cross country and outdoor track triumphs, is the 2006 World Indoor Championship gold medallist at 3000m and the reigning World indoor record holder for the 5000m, will embark on a spree of just two meets this indoor season, confirmed his management company today. Last week, the 24-year-old Ethiopian was confirmed as an entrant over 1500 metres at the Reunión Internacional Ciudad de Valencia, Spain on 10 February, and today it was announced that he will run the 2000 metres in Birmingham, England, on the 17 February at the Norwich Union Grand Prix. Both meetings are part of the nine meeting IAAF indoor permit meet series in 2007. To date Bekele has run only two 1500m races outdoors in his career, and Valencia will be his first outing indoors at that distance, though last year he finished second in the famous Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games in New York, a race which has a history dating back to 1926. The Valencia meet will be very much a dress rehearsal for next year’s 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships in the city, but whatever Bekele’s long term plans to defend his 3000m World Indoor title it will be interesting to gauge his track speed after dominant cross country runs in both Edinburgh and Seville earlier this month. The World and Olympic 10,000m champion’s return to Birmingham however gives us some statistical bench marks by which to judge his current form. In 2004, Bekele established a new World indoor 5000m record at the NIA stadium in a time of 12:49.60. Then after a brief hiatus in his success story (2nd Boston over 3000m and 2nd Birmingham over Two Miles) during his 2005 indoor campaign which followed the tragedy of his fiancé’s sudden death from a heart condition, Bekele returned successfully to Birmingham last year running close to the World indoor best for Two Miles (8:05.12). “I feel ready to run a fast time in Birmingham, and of course I will be pleased if I can set another World (indoor) record (best),” confirmed Bekele. “I'm pleased with my form at the moment – 2007 has started well for me in the cross-country, and I want to continue with that success indoors too.” “I always enjoy racing in Birmingham, as I have done well there in the past. The Birmingham crowd always gives lots of support, so I am looking forward to running in front of them again.” article courtesy of iaaf |

vipam i read an article at iaaf.org today that said in the senior mens race each country must pick 12 runners who can run in the senior mens race, 9 of which can run and 6 of which can score, my guess is the ethiopian federation puts keninisa bekele on the 12 eligible to run and try to talk him into running until the last second. |

just forget it. Kenenisa will not compete. if he change his mind then it will be Suicidal. Kenyan will do every evill thing to keninisa just to claim the title and not to be insulted to their on country. to my mind we should sent junior athletes so that they will have expriance. no doubt kenyan will win all the title with the excption of senior Individual title |

You are actually surprised, even though a few of us already emphasized that trying to "hijack" Vipam's topic by mentioning your favorite athlete's agenda was off-topic and in poor taste. It is rather obvious that you did this because of the immense popularity of Vipam's thread. Not too cool at all, Doug... a very immature thing to do, to put it politely. |

Kenenisa to attack Haile's 2000m indoor WR! He's capable but he will have to have everything near perfect. Birmingham 17 Feb 15:50 Men’s 2000m: Kenenisa Bekele will aim to break the world record of 4:52.86 set by fellow Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie at the NIA in 1998. Bekele, the world 5000m and 10,000m world record-holder, said: "I feel ready to run a fast time in Birmingham - and, of course, I will be pleased if I can set another world record. I'm pleased with my form at the moment - 2007 has started well for me in the cross country, and I want to continue with that success indoors too." Bekele won over two miles at this meeting last year and has enjoyed a number of victories at the Birmingham track – including the world indoor 5000m record in 2004, which was also previously held by Gebrselassie. Bekele’s opposition is primarily of Kenyan origin. |
