69 countries enter world cross country The Yomiuri Shimbun A total of 705 athletes from 69 countries have been initially entered in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships to be held April 1-2 in Fukuoka, the Japan Assocation of Athletics Federations announced Thursday. The championships, to be run on a course in Fukuoka's seafront Umi-no-Nakamichi Park, consist of two senior races and one junior event each for men and women. Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele, the world 10,000-meter record holder, is expected to seek his fifth straight double in the senior men's 12- and 4-kilometer races, but his entry will not be confirmed until the deadline on March 20, a JAAF official said. Japan's squads will be decided based on results from upcoming cross country meets in Fukuoka and Chiba. |

Dear vipam, Another nonsense words from Kenyan athletes. specially i do not expect words from limo( 31 years old guy who saw all four sucessive humilation for kenyan athletes) Speaking to Saturday Sports from Kigari yesterday, Limo said they decided to cut short their training by a week so they can work on their team strategy ahead of the world cross-country championships. "We are through with the commonwealth training and our focus is now on the cross country," he said. Limo allayed most Kenyans’ fears that Ethiopians would pose a great challenge. He said they have made sufficient preparations to tear apart their greatest rivals to pieces. "Kenenisa Bekele and his colleagues won’t pose a threat at all this time. We have a very strong and some of us understand the Ethiopians’ tactics, especially Bekele. This means that any of us can clinch the title," he added. Limo is the 4km cross-country team together with Yusuf Biwott, Choge, Isaac Songok, Edwin Soi and Brimin Kipruto. |

The Kenyan athletes shouldn't stating just lofty goals especially since they done it numerous times before and failed at four other X-Country Championships. It would be nice if one of them could give Kenenisa a challenge! |

This year the kenyans have a good chance on the short race. Ethiopia's team has changed...some new players like ali abdosh.. are making there debut in the short race .. we lost dejene from last year... But I still think that a potential team of Long Kenenisa, Dinkessa, Shine, Gebre, Short Kenenisa, Tariku, Ali, Shine, Dinkessa I the short race will be close. |

He is very talented but he isn't quite as talented as his brother at that age. No way should Tariku Bekele be beating Eliud Kipchoge(3:33.20, 7:27.72, 12:46.53). Eliud is in the 3000m top 10 All-Time and the 4th fastest ever at 5000m behind Kenenisa, Geb, and Daniel. Tariku will win his share of medals but just not as many as his brother. The truth is that Tariku still haven't mastered a Kenyan Augustine Choge whose Tariku exact age(who won 7 out of 10 meetings against Tariku). That NEARLY 2 seconds he put on great kickers Saif Shaheen and Eliud Kipchoge. Will have to check out video and see when he decide to go and what was Kenenisa's last 200m or 400m? What RACING tactics can the Kenyans employ to defeat Kenenisa Bekele at World X-Country? |

I know who is the favorite in the men's X-Country race but who is the favorite in the women's two events? Is Kenny B the only short course champion? |

I think that's a very good question. Beyond just blocking him physically so that he would have to knock people down if he wanted to get to the front, there's no way they can match him. |

The answer to what Racing tactic will beat Bekele is to just take more drugs than him. It's simple, If Bekele dopes up once day, then the ethiopians need to start doubling and dope once in the morning and once at night. Some might say this is considered "junk" doping, and has no effect, but it will greatly improve the Ethiopians chance of winning. On sundays they need to take in twice the normal dosage, as this is a staple workout, 120 ml of EPO instead of the normal 60ml's. This will help the blood carry more oxygen later on in the season. On tuesdays they should pump EPO in quick spurts into the legs, usually 3-4x 20 ml's will be sufficient. Seriously who cares about BEKELE running at cross and Doubling again, he Eats EPO with his cereal and has a glass of it at night before bed. He lives on EPO. YOu cant beat the worlds best in their events two days in a row when others of the same calibre cant even walk the next day. |

Your about as smart as your are observant, Kenenisa is Ethiopian. The question is what could the Kenyans do to beat him, not his own countrymen. I would suggest you stop sniffing glue and socialize with others besides your mirror! |

Any else think the World X-Country Championships will be alot more exciting than the World Indoors? I can't wait to see if the Russian women continue their fine performance from indoors to x-country. . Bekele completes unique trio of world titles Sun Mar 12, 2006 11:53 AM ET By Alison Wildey MOSCOW (Reuters) - Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele became the first athlete to win world titles on three surfaces when he took the men's 3,000 meters crown at the world indoor championships on Sunday. The world and Olympic 10,000 meters champion pulled away with one and a half laps to go to win in seven minutes 39.32 seconds. He now holds world titles indoors, outdoors and over cross-country. Double world steeplechase champion Saif Saaeed Shaheen of Qatar used his superb finishing speed to make sure of silver ahead of Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge in 7:41.28. Kipchoge, the fastest man in the world over the distance this year, was third in 7:42.58. Bekele, 23, is also the only man to win the long and short course races at the world cross-country championships. He has done that double four successive times. "After winning titles outdoors and in cross-country, indoors is like a fun-run for me," Bekele told reporters. "I really sprinted over the last two laps. I was controlling the race but I didn't expect it to be easy as Shaheen and Kipchoge are top-class athletes." Bekele added that he hoped to compete at this year's world cross-country championships in Japan on April 1-2. The three favorites were happy to hang back for the first 1,000 meters and let Irishman Alistair Cragg set the pace. Bekele went to the front and increased the speed with seven laps to go, followed by Kipchoge and Shaheen. The world 5,000 and 10,000 record holder kicked for home with three laps to go and then found even more speed to leave Shaheen in his wake. It was the first time the three medallists had met on the track and they all shook hands after the race. The race was fantastic," a delighted Shaheen said. "I hope in the summer I get a chance to run with him again. I don't want to say I'll beat him because I might not but I will try," added the Kenyan-born Qatari, who switched nationalities in 2003. Bekele had high hopes for his younger brother Tariku, who finished sixth in his first major final. "It was a little bit difficult for him he is very young," Bekele said of the 19-year-old. "I help him, we train together. I hope for him in the future he has a lot of talent." |

Is this the first time Kenny B. has committed to run in all the Super Golden League meets. There's the 1500m and 3000m/5000m but I bet he does the 3000m/5000m, but can he win all six meets? Golden League sets up jackpot Posted on 14 March 2006 - 20:00 Athletes winning the same event in five of the six Golden League meets this year will split a prize of US$500,000. The International Association of Athletics Federations said on Tuesday that the prize will be in addition to the US$1 million jackpot shared by athletes who win at all six meets. The jackpot winners will be required to compete at the season-ending World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany, in September in order to collect their winnings. Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele, the world record holder at 5,000 and 10,000 meters, said he will compete in all six Golden League events. "With no individual global championships to aim at in 2006, my focus is the Golden League this summer, and I am looking forward to challenging for the US$1 million prize," said Bekele, who last week became the first man in history to win world titles on three different surfaces. Bekele won the 3,000 at the world indoor championships in Moscow to go along with the 10,000 outdoor title and his cross-country titles. The Golden League consists of meets in Oslo, Norway; Paris; Rome; Zurich, Switzerland; Brussels, Belgium; and Berlin. |
