RE: Kenenisa Bekele: how soon will he totally annihilate the distance WR's? 8/3/2005 4:03PM - in reply to Vipam Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Kenenisa Bekele has already confirmed he will run a 10000m in Brussels and the meet director said, "the best pacemakers will be offered". We should see the first 10000m ran under 26:20 on August 26 if pacing and weather cooperates for the Ethiopian. Hopefully the Americans will join the race (especially Mebrahtom Keflezighi) and be pulled to a sub 27 minute.

Will Kenenisa improve on his already impressive 10000m WR? I think he is fit enough to take down another 3-5 seconds.

After the worlds will be the best time to post a incredible 10000m. I think we may see several sub 27 minutes at the meet with Bekele setting a new world record in 26:13. Wasn't 2005 supposed to be the year he ventured into the meteric mile?

He probably could win the 10000m and marathon in the 5000m but no way he could even medal in the 1500m.

The men's 5k will be the race of the championships not ot mention the men's steeple.

Bekele has to contend with the Kenyans.

According to James Templeton, the only way Bekele can give the fans value for their money is by doubling and in my view, he will.

However it goes, it will be fun to watch.

his success in WC makes a diffrence.

if he score a good result in wc, he can break both 5k and 10k world record this season.

(let us not forget that thi year he lost his fiancee)

Kenenisa Bekele may not be running the 5000m; however, until they line up for the 5000m and the gun goes off and he's not on the track-I won't believe it! When he won double gold at the World X-Country and came back the next year and said he wouldn't double I didn't believe that. The next two years he said the same thing and double at the Worlds and the Olympics (said track was too hard) but doubled.

Now I do believe that he doesn't want to double this year as he wants to chase world records this year after the Championships but I feel the Federation will win and Kenenisa Bekele will end up running the 5000m and 10000m! It would be good if he didn't so he could truly blaze the 10000m but he is Ethiopia's best hope in the 5000m. Kenenisa Bekele I feel already knows there isn't much of a chance Ethiopia will let him out of the double.

Ethiopia's Bekele wants to skip 5,000 metres, run only 10,000
Fri Aug 5, 2005 4:16 PM GMT
By Gene Cherry

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Ethiopian world record holder Kenenisa Bekele does not want to run the 5,000 metres at the world championships, his agent said on Friday.

Bekele would prefer to run only the 10,000, where he is world champion and holds the world record, but the Ethiopian federation has entered him in both, Jos Hermens told Reuters.

"He has made his decision, but the federation wants him to run both," Hermens said. "The final decision probably will not be made until the last minute."

Running both events in the world championships would seriously affect Bekele's ability to run quality times for the remainder of the season, Hermens said.

The men's 10,000 final will be held on Monday with the 5,000 metres preliminaries on Thursday and the final on Sunday.

Bekele won the Olympic 10,000 title and took silver in the 5,000 at Athens last year. He claimed bronze in the 5,000 at the last world championships in Paris in 2003.

The little man always say he won't double. I too won't believe it until the 5000m is on its way. The scheduled WR attempt in the 10000m in late August will not be affected if he doubles.

Kenenisa wins and doesn't look fatigued. Was that left so late as to save himself for the 5000m in which he supposedly won't be running?
