My fat, slovenly friend is determined to beat the Facebook Hero from his wife's office in a 5k road race. My friend is 27 years-old, 5'6", 190 lbs and has not run in a few years (until this week). He smoke cigarettes occasionally and drinks like a fish. In his heyday, he was pretty solid. Pretty crazy amount of talent in fact. He ran 54.4 for 400m in 8th grade and then ran 2:01.2 for 800m as a freshman in High School. He had injury issues as a junior and did not even compete as a senior, but he did manage PRs of 51.2, 1:58.5 for 800m and 16:11 for 5k XC (he raced at 5'6", 145 - 150 back then, but this was due to his stocky build, not fatness; he was an All-State wrestler at 135) off of about 25-30 mpw.
Facebook Hero makes daily Facebook posts about his training and gives full-fledged recaps after each of his races. You all know exactly the type of person that I am referring to. His PR is 20:XX.
Anyways, Fatty ran 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday in just under 7 minute pace. This was his first run in years. He said that he was basically going all-out. He only plans on running 15 miles per week in preparation, but he should be able to beat Facebook Hero by late August, right?
