Great to see him run that, he looked so smooth the entire time, it reminded me of 2010 Wheating with how easy he looked. I think right now he is in shape to run a bit quicker, maybe 3:36 but not much faster. By the end of the summer he should be in very solid shape.

Best-looking Wheating in a long time.
Haven't seen him look that confident and strong down the stretch in a WHILE.
3:38 not too shabby at all for his opener, and he looked like he had quite a bit left.
Hoping there's a lot more to come.
Go get 'em, Andy.
NIce Job!
Wow that's nice to hear. I can't wait to see the replay. Did he stay out of lanes 2 and 3 for the most part?
Ryan Vail 3:43 interesting
Dude is on his way back to kicking ass. Can't wait to see him race later this summer!
yeah...loved seeing ryan vail run a 1500. hope to see him run well in sac in a couple weeks. he's running the 10000m
Wheating always looks very smooth when he runs. That being said, a 3:38 win is encouraging.
NOICE!
Where can we get a video of this???

Agreed. What a versatile runner. You have to think that's going to translate over to a nice 10k.
Wheating was super pumped after the win and said, "I'm back baby" and then proceeded to talk about the American record.

Wheatin's initial quote: “I’m back. I’ve been waiting three years to say that. I’ve been running too many races unsure of myself and unconfident. Rowland has transformed me into a monster and I can not wait to see what becomes of it.”
Hopefully he has another 8 seconds in him , because thats what he is going to need to be at the front of the pack with big boys. In case he's not aware a whole crop of milers/1500 guys are on the scene from when he was at his best.

wheating for my money always was an animal, a great racer, actually very strong mentally .the issue with wheating is that he's a bit of a head case when he's not in the best of shape. he was foolish to think that his C game is good enough to compete well in a top race.when he's in 335 shape he runs 335, when he's in 330 shape he runs that. i've never seen wheating not show up when he was able.

Any replay vids? My questions is, how does he get into a fast race now? Get into some european B races and hope to get down to 3:34 or better and hope to leverage that + olympics experience/3:30 PB into an A race?
It seems hard being that he got started so late, but who knows. Just good to see him racing again and hopefully he has a nice progression through the season.

That is the craziest crap I've read on here. Strong mentally, but also a head case? Someone who is strong mentally is NOT a head case.
Wheating has not "shown" up on numerous occasions, the move to Rowland was a bit late to me because he needed a coach who could coach him mentally (which Rowland can do). Perhaps he will now be able to make up for lost time if Rowland has finally gotten him past his overthinking EVERYTHING.

Kind of have to agree with you here. What's worse is that being injured only adds to the potential to let your head mess you up as you are spending too much time thinking!
Kind of why I thought that being part of NOP would have been good for him because it seems more focussed and hands on, but now it sounds like moving to Rowland could do the trick. I would love to know what wheating could do over 3K in a couple years, he ran good XC early on.
