Watching Twin Cities today was just another reminder of what a lousy job Alberto has done in the Marathon. The Oregon Project starts in an attempt to change marathoning in the US. Alberto takes the top guy from WCAP (Browne), the top guy from Hansons (Johnson) a guy that has run low 27"s in the 10K (Hanneck) one of the top guys on the East Coast (Donnelly) and an up and comer who had just come off of making the World Cross in both the 4k and the 12k (Davis). He then added a 28:18 10k guy that anted to focus on the marathon (McCardle). A true all star team. LET US NOT FORGET THAT THIS WAS DESIGNED TO BE A MARATHON GROUP. He is then handed over an open check book from Nike and all the gadgets and gizzmo's that he feels is necessary. In four years he has produced a 2:27 in the Olympics. A DNF in the trials by Donnelly and Hanneck (and neither of them have finished one since). A 2:25 from Johnson who has left the program. Never a race finish by McCardle. Who even knows where Hanneck is? And today both Davis ans Donnelly were entered and neither one finished. Nice piece of work Alberto. Nike should give the check book to the Hansons and watch America soar.
