Rupp usually sweats a lot. Not so in this 10k.

Nice try. Rupp's slow steady progress, disappearance of asthma, disappearance of allergies, and minimal sweating at the end of a hard race, are not be questioned.
You make great points. How did that happen? You ask a great question. I doubt that Rupp was cheating because Rupp is probably the most scrutinized runner in the US. There is something, or probably a collection of things, that Rupp is doing to make him great. Americans like to think that there is a pill or an injection that produces results. But maybe it has something to do with "exercise more, eat less" at an elite level.

Actually, I am more interested in how Rupp has cured his asthma and controlled his allergies. Whatever he is, or they are, doing should be shared with humanity.

In all honesty, sweating is in no indication of effort. Sweating is a homeostasis function of the body to keep it cool.
The fact that he wasn't sweating shouldn't be alarming for PEDs, but that his hypothyroidism is returning.
Slow progression works well. Especially with Albertos method of training. They are not just running high mileage, but also throwing in sprinting sessions with time in the gym. This allows Galen to have more stimulus and more muscle adaptations which attribute to his 'steady progression'.
He has always had issues with asthma. He was wearing his mask till the race started basically. Also, believe it or not, but there is LEGAL( REPEAT: LEGAL) medication to cure allergies for a short time.
Golly people, think a little.
Hey where's Rupp Certified Salad Bar? Shouldn't he be here criticizing Rupp? Oh wait, he (along with the crew of the other sleazy Rupp haters) is probably crying himself to sleep.
From what I recall, I thought there was some hedging by Salazar on whether Rupp was to do the 5k or 10k based on the anticipated pollen levels. His allergies still affect his race planning to a certain degree.

EXACTLY. His allergies have not just 'gone away'
They are being prudent.
Sure he can keep his allergies down with a mask and medicine, but if he/you/anyone act up when there is a high degree of pollen in the air... Why risk blowing up when you are in AR shape?
Science!!!
I was there. G.R. was magnificent!
I was at the race. I can attest to conditions being perfect (and I try not to use that word lightly ). Perfect temp. Virtually no wind. On top of that rupp is running in front of his home crowd. The pace setting was about as good as it gets too. Just a small fail early when the pace went out overly fast.
All things considered this performance shouldn't be too surprising. I would venture to say that a runner could have a 10-15 year career and only run a couple races where conditions set up so well for a record attempt. If rupp had run in the same conditions two years ago he would hold the 5000m ar right now
Note on pollen. Salazar never claimed it affects rupp during a race with high pollen counts. His concern is lingering after affects of running in pollen. In any case, by race time I don't think the pollen count was that high. I did see rupp before the race wearing his mask.
