Rupp the so called "golden boy" has broken 13 ONE TIME and he ran 12:58. Solinsky might not have the medals that Rupp has but damn it he ran with heart and balled out at every given opportunity. I really hope he can get back in shape for a half or full thon....he could do some damage on the roads with that speed.
I agree that Solinsky's 2010 season was pretty damn good.
However, I disagree that he "ran with heart and balled out at every given opportunity". He was perfectly fine when the going was good in the 2010 season and earlier, but when the going got tough, he was dropping out of races, not starting races, etc.
The episode at the 2011 Monaco Diamond League for instance, was absolutely ridiculous.
Rupp went down with 3 laps to go, but at the very least, his reason was that Rotich unpredictably went down right in front of him, and he ended up flipped over on his back.
Solinsky in contrast, was apparently "shoved" by a 110 pound Ethiopian. From the video footage, it actually appears that there was barely any body contact.

http://www.runnersworld.com/elite-runners/chris-solinskyIn the same season, he DNFd at the Pre Classic after Rupp didn't start.
After that, he had his injury, but really never put his heart into his running again. He was DNFing low-key college meets, foregoing races, etc.
Solinsky may have started out great, but again, when the going got tough, he most definitely did not get going.
