I don't agree. Because you are fast twitch and not much of a distance runner, does not mean you should reduce your mileage. 800m runners may need more volume to make up for their lack of a ability to run quality miles. Snell, Juantorino, and others put in some big mileage, while not being great distance runners.
The mistake many coaches make is that because their 800m runners can't make the cross country team, they think they can't handle volume. Those two things are mutually exclusive.
So to answer the question, if the runner can handle it, doubles may be more important for these 800m runners who are not great distance runners. It will allow them to do the volume without slowing the pace down too much.
