I think it's cool that an American, Meb, won the Boston marathon after 31 years without an American winner. I told this to a friend of mine and he asked me how it was cool, saying that it's not a big deal. He thinks there were many things better this year that happened at the marathon than an American winning, such as the women's course record, Meb's age and new PR, and Meb being so heartfelt and emotional, running this race for the runners and in honor/memory of what happened last year.
Don't get me wrong, I also think the women's course record and Meb's PR given his age are both awesome things. BUT, doesn't the fact that he won the year after the bombings, with that being a big motivation for his race, make it even cooler that it was THIS year that an American won?
My friend is stubborn and will not listen to my reasoning, but how does everyone else feel about this?
