When I say long run, I mean 11-12 max for the time being. I love the Kinvara, but sometimes, it seems like a weird shoe in terms of what exactly you use it for. Can I use it for my runs that are 11-12 miles in distance?

Yes you sure can and I don't see why you couldn't or why this is even a question to ask. I run everything in xc flats and get no injuries. The Kinvara is made to run in so just go run in it. I'd be much more concerned about running in a DS trainer or a Brooks adrenaline.
Aren't you like a 20 minute 5k guy? Who cares!

I ask because most people on this board seem to use the Kinvara for speed/interval workouts or tempo runs.

Shut up, I have broken 19 a few times. That is why I am asking questions like this to be a better runner.
Been using them for years. I run all my runs in them when i'm doing like 30 miles a week and not training for anything. But when i train for a race or marathon and up my mileage to 60+, i started feeling like i needed more cushion on easy days. So at that point i use Kinvaras for track/tempo/long run and the Cortana for easy days. I'm 5'10" and roughly 160 for what it's worth.
No, you will probably crap your pants.
yes. as long as you're acclimatized to a lower drop shoe and are in shape to be running in something fairly low cushion, they're a fantastic do it all shoe. for a heavier runner or someone making the transition to lighter/more minimal shoes, they make a great shoe for speed work.
I've been running everything in them for about a year now. That's after ditching my orthotics and massive shoes. Still no major injuries.
Absolutely.
I trained in Pegasus for 3 years and had hip, stress fracture problems (heel striker).
Over the summer I built from 27 mile/week to 70+ in KINVARAS only while training for a marathon. (Focused on midfoot then naturally went into a forefront strike.)
A year later I have had zero injuries. I ran a 2:50 mid marathon and ran many 18+ mile runs in them. I currently do all of my interval/normal runs in them and have had no problems.
They look good BUT I train 450 Miles in them.
My first pair got 450 miles.
2nd pair I pushed it to around 600 and then had a 50 dollar gift card.
3rd Pair I got a few weeks ago. They are the KINVARAS 4's just like all the other ones (maybe the first ones were 3s..)
The Kinvara 5's just came out so you could get a good deal on the 4's most likely.
Long post.. but I am a huge proponent of the Kinvaras and low drop shoes.
You can absolutely wear them for anything and everything. I am 6'3", 167lbs and it has been my only shoe for the past year. With my weight, I am not keen on more than 430 miles per pair.
I was going to wear them for my upcoming marathon, but recently bought a pair of Streaks, just for the feeling of putting on 'fast shoes' come race day.
Can the same be said for the New Balance 890v4? Would that be considered a daily trainer that can double as a racing shoe for distances up to the marathon?
I wore NB 890s from spring 2011 until now. I was not a fan of V4, nor would I use it as a racing shoe even for a marathon (too much shoe). I am seriously considering moving to Kinvaras as a full time shoe but need to give it more of a try.
