Not sure how you call it a fringe theory. More like an observation from people who watch a lot of marathons and notice that this one was incredibly unusual in the way it played out. If you would have watched the broadcast, you would have heard the announcers state the obvious - the pacing was unusually slow and controlled, the breakaway was unusually slow and controlled (and paced by a 2:14 guy), and the last three miles were really weird with two Kenyan guys suddenly putting on the brakes and just hovering behind with a ~10 second gap all the way through to the finish.
Hmmm. A lot of really weird things happen and suddenly an American wins for the first time in 31 years - coincidentally in a very high profile year.
Aren't we allowed to wonder why the race played out in such an incredibly weird way?
Are you also aware that the American runners have admitted to collusion? Are we not allowed to ask about the extent of the collusion? Would it make a difference to you if the Africans were in on it too? Did everybody know that Josephat Boit was going to act as a pacer for Meb? Or was that spontaneous? It's one thing to let a guy go out on a big surge on his own, but a guy just sort of edging away, together with a pacer who has no shot at winning?!?
Also, are you not aware that marathons have been demonstrably fixed in recent years? Did you see Mutai beat Kimetto in Berlin a couple years ago?
Also, are you aware that fixes have been common in other sponsor heavy sports, like cycling? You might want to read about the 1999 tour de france, for instance. It was a high profile year, and some "inspirational" things happened that later (2012) were revealed to involve both cheating by riders AND collusion by the governing body.
Don't think you're being noble by trying to silence people's questions.
BTW, is Tyson Gay still clean?
