What in the heck?
This is so far from true its absurd. It's nice that they're paying attention to us but when they're posting ill informed opinions that's where I draw the line.

It's ESPN. The worldwide leader in american football, baseball, and basketball.
Endless Sports Proganda Network.
Did they ever acknowledge running before a couple terrorists bombed Boston?
Who do you rank higher on the men's side?
Hall was one of the best.
Meb won NYC in 2009.
Lagat some might argue was long distance. Rupp was still getting beat in college wasn't he in the earl part?
Well, if you consider 5k and 10k to be mid-distance then they are more or less right.
It's actually a Runner's World article (it says so next to the author's name) picked up by ESPN
Alan Webb in 2007

I forget. Who was it really?
January 2007 - 59:43 AR at Houston Half. First and only white guy ever under 60.
April 2007 - 2:08:24 debut in London Marathon, took the lead 23 miles into the race.
November 2007 - 2:09:02 OT victory and trials-record in NYC for Olympic team
April 2008 - 2:06:17 5th place in deep field at London. Only KK is faster ever for US.
August 2008 - disappointing 2:12:33 in Olympic marathon, behind Ritz.
April 2009 - Boston in 2:09:40 for 3rd place.
April 2010 - Boston in 2:08:41 for 4th place, fastest American ever at Boston.
April 2011 - Boston in 2:04:58 for 4th place, on wind-aided day, but he was the one pushing the pace for 15 miles.

Most dominant in 2007? Yes. 2008-11? No. Webb failed to make the Olympic team and spiraled downhill from there.

So, I'd say he was America's most dominant marathoner in that stretch. I hate pretending Meb's win at the slowest marathon major of the last decade means more than it does.

OP, this response blew you out of the water. If you can't even name ONE PERSON who qualifies for this distinction more, your point is moot. Only Deena and Lagat could be in this conversation; Lagat maybe not if the original subject was marathons. Deena ran 2:19 but lacks the racing ferocity Hall demonstrated over the same time frame.

Once again, you prove yourself as my least favorite poster on letsrun...and that's saying something.
Lagat has been the most dominant runner in the US since he became an American citizen until the present time.

What is Lagat's marathon PR. Shit, how about even his 10K PR?
Plus Lagat is a god damned Kenyan and you know it.

He was awesome. Houston, 5th in London, 3rd in Boston, even 4th today is incredible.
For US road runners, for sure the most successfull and the most gutsy.
If you don't count Bernie's success in the 5k, then I can agree.
Well lets see....a few names to start......
Webb in 2007 (1:43, 3:46, 27:xx)
Lagat in 2007 (double gold at WC)
Tegenkamp in 2007 (4th at WC in 5k)
Lagat in 2008 (finished higer at the olympics then Hall did)
Lagat in 2009 (Silver at WC 5k)
Rupp in 2009 (8th at WC 10k)
Tegaenkamp in 2009 (8th at WC 5k)
Lagat in 2010 (Gold indoor WC 3k)
Solinsky 2010 (12:55 5k)
Lagat in 2011 (Silver at WC 5k)
Rupp in 2011 (7th at WC 10k)
So in total we have Webb, Lagat, Tegenkamp, Rupp and Solinsky who all were better than Hall over that period.
Hall has 1 American record which is the half marathon which NOONE runs. It's a weak record compared to recent ARs to boot.
