Higginson has been focused on the steeple for a long time. Nice to see her roll a good one. I didn't know Rachel Sorna had become a serious steepler.

She was fourth in the D1 Nationals last year--had a best of 9:50.

And yes, that was a pretty hot race--fun to watch.

Surprised it didn't make the front page. That's a really good early season time and deep up front. Could be a good season for women steeplechasers when you add in the rest of the studdettes.

Sorna's 9:43 is just outside the NCAA all-time top 10 list for the event, FYI.

Interesting--I had no idea.

I note that Sorna missed most of the indoor meets, presumably from illness or injury, and wonder whether this might actually be in her favor in the outdoor season (which has nearly two more months to run?). She did well in the steeple last year, but seemed basically to be on a plateau from the beginning of outdoor to the end; this year, she still seems to be on an upward curve.

With her already running under 16 min for the 5k, it makes me wonder if she's considering the 5k/SC double beyond the conference meet.
