Why would anyone think that she could? She came close, but fell short.

Agreed , at the end of the day she has come closer than any american in recent times. Maybe , just maybe we get two americans in the top 5.

They probably think that she can because she came so close once already. Those 2 seconds could easily turn the other way.
I'd say she either Desi wins it or does very poorly. Shalane in the 3rd-6th area.

Desi has a plan- it was in the interview posted on letsrun MB.
I can't remember the pace she said she was going to run but it was reasonable. She even discussed not letting her emotions take over too early.
If it works she could go by struggling runners who went out too fast.
I'm picking Jeptoo for the win, Shalane 2nd, Desi? top 5 I hope.
Probably because she was injured for so long and no one really knows what kind of race shape she is in. I'd be hesitant putting money on her right now, despite her past achievements.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
She is not cute. She is not pretty. She is not attractive. She has a goofy form.
I doubt that any American has any chance, but Desi is definitely our best chance. Shalane has NO chance.
because she can't
One of these runners will get roped into a too fast and erratic starting pace because of their competitiveness. They will not finish well.
The other will run their own pace and have a chance. This other runner is getting less coverage based on their 2012 jog in London and dropout.
i think most believe she is not 100% (in shape) ready, training has been pretty good, but not 2011 shape.

I think she's cute. As for her form, pretty is as pretty does. Probably she could hammer you into the ground.
Truthfully, I didn't think that Desi or Ryan Hall was still competitive.
Shalene has the people of Boston behind her and it sounds like she has been fixated on this race for a long time. I think she'll be incredibly focused. Doubtful she can beat Jeptoo but no one thought Don Kardong would be an Olympic 4th place finisher either. Shalene will have to surge like she never has before but her 47:00 15K indicates she is capable. In her mind, she has probably surged away from Jeptoo every day in training for the past six months.

Bump. Happening now. Too competitive
because she's 1:30 off the lead.
