Yesterday I was at the start of my 3200m race. The gun is fired and I sprint to get a good position. At 25m into the race, I feel a pop at the bottom of my left arch and then a stabbing pain. It felt like a nail being driven through my foot. In order to continue and finish the race, I had to change my stride. I could no longer run on the ball of my foot without stabbing pain.
After finishing in a pitifully slow time, I had to run a cool down. While simply running or jogging, there was no pain. It only occurred if I would run at a race pace or sprint. There was nothing in my spikes. Sprinting in my regular training shoes would not elicit the painful stabbing. Only when I sprinted in my spikes it was painful.
Does anyone know what caused this pain or have experienced a similar occurence? This pain really threw me off and made me angry. I do not normally have any injury problems. Thank you for any help.
