My son is a senior in high school and will be attending a mid-major Midwest DI college in the fall. He had full-ride swimming scholarship offers from several Big 10 / Big 12 universities, but chose a mid-major closer to home. He is an All-State cross country runner, All American / All-State distance swimmer, and 1600m/3200m high finisher at the high school state track meet. Since his sophomore year he has been swimming an hour before school, running an hour at lunch, and swimming two hours after school 5 days a week. No weights or dry-land training to this point. No weekend workouts either. He's talked about an interest in extending that to 6 days a week starting this summer and throughout college, and possibly incorporating weights/dry-land training as well.
He's definitely on track to be able to qualify for DI swimming nationals by his sophomore/junior year. Not quite as competitive as a runner. Although he's more competitive at the DI level at swimming, he absolutely love both sports equally.
Does anyone know of a DI athlete who has qualified for DI nationals in swimming and cross country, or swimming and track?
