The most boring sport in the world is women's power tennis. Serena killed women's tennis with her power game. It is all baseline rallies, screams on every swing of the racket, lots of unforced errors trying to crush the ball and winners that are just overpowering shots with no angles or finesse.
That's not Serena's fault, nor is it a problem unique to women's tennis. It's the fault of racquet technology, and the problem extends to men's tennis.
The coming of light, large-framed racquets equipped with polyester strings spelled the death of tennis. Players can just camp out at the baseline all day and muscle the ball at 100mph and 10000rpm. Rushing the net is a losing strategy. The volley, half-volley and overhead are obsolete strokes. It's all about consistent, topspin groundstrokes. The game doesn't allow for variety. You can try to be an all-court player or net rusher, but your game will lose on average.
The problem of tennis becoming real-life pong is further compounded by:
* Hard courts having more friction.
* More tournaments being played on hard courts. Carpet is obsolete is there are only like 3 grass court tournaments.
* More tournaments playing best-of-5 sets, thus rewarding consistency and endurance.
* Drug testing being a complete joke. I am 100% sure that Nadal and Djokovic have been on PEDs at some point in time.
