Hello everyone last saturday I had my first invitational of the spring season and in the 1600 I ran a 4:30.91 as a sophmore. I am very happy with this time but I have a dream of going to New Balance Nationals and I would need a 4:20 mile (maybe 4:18 1600?) to get there. Just for some background I do around 40 miles per week (maybe more or less) and I am doing two a days 4 days a week usually. For the 1600 I ran last saturday my splits were rough.... I ran a 63, 64, 70, 74. It's pretty clear I went out way to hard and I suffered as a result of that. I was exhausted from the 800 on and collapsed at the finish line. One of my strengths is running to full capacity and leaving it all out there. If I manage to keep up my training and figure out proper pacing how far fetched is this goal? I think this would be the upper limits of my capability but I think it's worth a shot. I have another race this Saturday and I am shooting for 4:25 with proper pacing this time around. If I relax a little more on the first 800 then explode I should be much better off right? Any advice for further running improvements would be greatly appreciated!
