I have a hip/leg injury that I believe is a result of having taken levaquin for a lung infection. In late November I had a worsening lung infection despite two rounds of antibiotics. So my doctor prescribed levaquin and said it was the best. He gave no verbal warnings of any kind about levaquin. After 5 days, my lungs were clear. Three days later (the day after taking the last dose of levaquin), I went for a slow run during which I felt a strange pain deep in my hip, actually in the middle to outside of my right buttock. I have had every kind of muscle injury there is and this felt nothing like any other pain I have ever felt. Two days later I tried running again. The hip pain persisted accompanied by a grabbing sensation down the hamstring. On both days, as slowly as I was going, I can't believe I strained or tore anything.
Now, 4 months later, it feels no different, no better than it did in December. I have tried very slow running but the pain is always there. Pain relievers don't touch it. I feel like I could stretch it all day and not affect it. I have done massage therapy twice which feels great during but by the next day I am back to the same thing. The muscle fibers affected feel constricted, tight in the sense of being squeezed, like the connective tissue surrounding these fibers is locked down. I still feel the burning sensation from the butt down the back of my leg.
My question---has anyone had a similar problem and had any success with treatments? I have seen a website about levaquin injuries saying no treatment works, injury could last months, years, or permanent. Any help appreciated. I feel like I'm looking at the end of my running life. Thank you.
