Getting back into running after not having run any significant amount (read over 15 mpw) for 22 months. How fast could I safely build up mileage? I maintained 80-85 mpw for 4 years during university.
I ran roughly 15 mpw in June and ran 31:11 for a measured 5 miles. So I'm a long ways from where I was but not completely out of shape. I can currently run 2 miles in 11 mid.
I ran for a bit over 5 miles today at ~7 minute pace.
Tentatively I'm thinking
15 miles this week, 3 runs.
20 miles next, 4 runs.
25 miles, 5 runs.
Then increase runs gradually until I hit 40 off of singles and start adding doubles to my schedule.
Ultimately I'd like to go back to 80-85 miles a week. The goal is to get back into good enough shape to win some road races and hopefully compete on the track once again.
