Somehow this does not seem like something that I can wrap my mind around.
Maybe it is because I can't even remember the last time he ran a marathon. Maybe it is because all the focus has been on London up to now.
Just seems like it won't happen.

Sadly, I feel the same. I'm very curious as to how it will turn out for him, presuming he shows up at the line. With Kimetto in the field, I don't think anyone else really matters though.
He needs to run something. I ran in 2011, he gave me a high five at the start. The only thing I remember him doing since then is cancelling every race except the Olympic marathon, which he dropped out of.

He's run at least 7 races in the last two years. Same as Abdi, I think he's run 8 or 9 but hasn't finished a marathon since the trials.
He looks fit. I think he could win.
He is flying under the radar. Expect big things next Monday!
Really... so many haters. Ryan is the best marathoner in American history. His debut, trials win, great efforts at London and Boston. Come on folks. The guy runs at the front and is a solid human being. Go get them Ryan!
Right. I hope the guy puts it together. He has been a bright spot for the US. If only we had 3-4 Ryan Halls.

There may be some folks who can't stand (or even 'hate') Ryan Hall. However, there have been zero posts on this thread indicating any bad wishes for Hall.
Please try looking at reality rather than simply staring at the inside of your own head.

The best would probably be Frank Short or Bill Rodgers or Meb.
The fastest would Kalid Kauchastlid
now whos' Kalid Kauchastlid?
YOU BROKE HIM!!!!
In reference to the best American marathoners, the Shorter, Rodgers, Meb reference is interesting.
There's no doubt that Shorter and Rodgers are the most influential, but they lost their best status years ago.
Hall and Kannouchi would be a mile ahead of Shorter and Rodgers in a race. I don't want to crush anybody's sentimental feeling about great American runners, but it is just an different, much more competitive, ball game in the 21st Century.
I wish him the best but would be surprised if he goes faster than 2:11.
under 2:10 would be a spectacular comeback.
I am a big fan of Ryan Hall and I always look forward to his DNS announcements. I have been waiting for his Boston DNS announcement for months but sadly it looks like he is going to run this time.

Meb might be the toughest American marathoner ever. Not the fastest or best, but the toughest.

Toughest and most consistent. Need to call him Mr. 209.
As for Ryan Hall, always appreciated his talent and running. Don't think he's going to run a "great" race by his standards. Just feels like it's been too long. Are there ANY examples of marathoners being gone 2+ years and then running as fast or faster than they ever have? (At the elite level...)

Yes, there are examples. The one you called "toughest and most consistent" would be one of them.
It's the day after Easter. I think he'll be well worth watching.

including Frank Shorter, of course. That twat never won anything.
