I'm not sure if you're suggesting that he can go 4:23 or not, but if you are, I think the part you may have overlooked is that the OP has been doing 25 mpw for 5 weeks with speed workouts.
It'd probably be very difficult to run the mile that quickly on only 25 mpw training.
25mpw after doing 40mpw? That's heaps for a HS kid to run a good mile - at about double the 800 + 30 secs.
What I don't get is the 400/800 speed differential. I've got speed-based kids on a lot less mileage than that who can get their differential down to 7-7.5 (differential between 400 speed and average lap for 800). Yours is at 8 seconds if those times are accurate. was that 800 your limit or do you think you can go faster?
