I know there have been a couple of threads regarding this subject, but I am looking for any information that some of you might have about competing while in grad school during a fifth year. Assuming that the athlete has a full year of eligibility (redshirt) and is intending on going to graduate school after completing his/her undergraduate degree, can an athlete who can make an impact at a national-caliber program potentially receive scholarship money for their fifth year? How common is this?
Additionally, can a good track/xc program help an athlete get into a certain graduate program much like the undergraduate recruiting process for schools like the Ivies? (and others)
The graduate programs that the athlete is considering are not offered by their undergraduate institution, fyi.
Thanks for any information.
