No denying that those in the field are the best of the best.
Regardless of time (barring 5+ DNFs), if Farah wins, would it be the best debut ever?

Didn't Moses Mosop debut with a 2:03:06 in Boston?
what's your own opinion

He didn't even win that race.
Regardless, Mosop had one more great race (Chicago 2:05). I doubt we will ever hear from him again.
I'm pretty sure Phiedippides would still have him beat.
If he wins it by not participating in the front from the start then he's truly just running a time trial. So he'd have to run a faster debut time than anyone else. Bekele just ran a 2:03ish equivalent debut so he'd have to at least beat the London equivalent of that. I don't know who has the debut record.
If Farah does participate in the front from the start and finishes in a reasonable time then yes it would be one of the greatest or the greatest debut ever.
The question was about greatest marathon debut.
2:03:06 has to be considered as a candidate of greatest debut regardless of winning.
In this case of London, IF someone debuts and beats a field like this, then competition depth would have to come into consideration regardless of time.

Not exactly a debut but lets not forget that Ryan Hall ran a 2:04 on the hard Boston course, probably equivalent to a 2:03 London if not lower.

You think Paris is two minutes slow? I'm pretty sure a 2:05 there is equivalent to a 2:05.

You're sure and you're wrong. Adding the word "pretty"does t make your statement true. And no, I don't think Paris is necessarily two minutes slow. One minute would be arguable and reasonable and in line with my statement.
My opinion is that if he wins, and beats the field of G. Mutai, E. Mutai, Kipsang, etc. and runs say anything sub 2:05, it would be the greatest debut that I know of. Someone mentioned Mosop's Boston debut but in my head, him not winning the race is a big strike against him.
If Farah wins, he's beating the best known marathoners outside of Kimetto and a couple of others as far as I'm concerned, and no matter how he does it (again, assuming they all don't DNF or something crazy), then yes it would be the best debut.
Though I must say, I don't know marathoning history very well, which is why I posed the question. Were there any spectacular debuts in the 70s/80s?

I think the debut record is Kimetto in Berlin 2012 with 2:04:16 or so, not counting Mosop's 2:03:06.
He "let" Mutai win, but say he won that in close to 2:04 flat, I'd put that as the greatest debut up to this point.
