When you are walking around town, do you consciously flex, or push off the ground with EXTRA force at toe-off to activate your calves? As opposed to driving from the hip, and letting the lower leg swing lifelessly, with minimal toe-off force?
I used to do this when I was younger because of vanity, because I had shockingly beautiful and muscular calves, and wanted people to see them working in all their glory. Interestingly, I never had running calf injuries during that period.
Now I am a 42-yo weekend warrior, and have lost all vanity, so I don't flex my calves as I walk around anymore. I now have many running-related calf injuries.
Maybe the calf-flexing was protective?
What say you LRC brothers? Do you flaunt those calves? Is it good or bad, health-wise?
