Eh, theey recruited Wheating to be a 800-1500 guy. There just happened to be no one better at cross that one year, so he was the 7th man.

Great, and this point has zero to do with your criteria in the title of your thread.
So please add Wheating A+.
Or, does this throw off your bias agenda a bit?
Bias? I gave 4 of the guys a B or better.

Is that true? The didn't know what they had in Wheating because he had only run for 1 year(?) in HS. The first time I saw Wheating run at Hayward was in a 3k or 5k. I remember thinking who the f*** is that tall guy for Oregon.

Yes, he was a decent cross guy in HS, ran under a few times, but they knew his true talent was at the 8/15.
3:53 mile and numerous conference championships gets a B+ and Wheating's track performances get no mention at all??
So, this is a cross country performance list?
Issac Stoutenbourg (sp?)
Ryan Waite (Transferred to BYU)
Acosta was great on the track, never did much in XC. Not a huge surprise there coming out of high school. Dettmans didn't do anything, but they really weren't on the same talent level as these others guys. Almost fair to include them. They got the most out of their talent earlier on I'd say. They were not going to be sub 14 guys (assumption) regardless.
Kenny Klotz and the Mercado ran some great XC races for Oregon on the big state. Klotz never did anything on the track. Might be the biggest downfall of the class in that respect. I thought coming out of high school he was the most talented in that class. I think he would have dusted Acosta and Coe at FL if he hadn't of ran NTN.
Waite had a couple of great seasons at BYU as an 800 runners.
Issac ran around 8:50ish in the steeple I think. Not sure what happened with Issac. Like Klotz, thought he was a big time talent, especially in the longer distance. I remember him doing very well in USA junior xc. I thought he and Klotz were going to tear things up.
Hard to rank these guys overall. Most of them were MUCH better at XC or track. None of those guys excelled in both.
*Unfair

I remember reading a quote from Lanana saying they didn't know where Wheating's talent was early on and considered 5000 as a possibility. Actually Wheating wanted to be a 5K guy. They discovered his ability over 800-1500, I don't believe they knew it coming in, nor did he. I also remember a race where he and centro ran neck and neck, maybe his soph. year in cross to lead a not full oregon team at some race in Oregon. Keep in mind that Centro was an 8:40 high school 2 miler who was top 20 (top 10?) at NCAA cross as a senior, so no slouch.

Tell that to half the farts that post on thid board.
Just to be clear; running talent aside I found them a little bit dreamy dressed up in their short shorts and tank tops. I'm a sucker for a skinny guy in running attire.
