*on only a stimulant
Which certainly calls into question Powell's earlier times.
And when are we going to hear something about Tyson Gay? He's effectively banned already while waiting for a final decision, but I'd like to know what the story behind the positive test was.
I'd really like for Asafa to own up to his mistake. As a devout god-fearing man, accepting his mistake will make him feel much better. I highly doubt that will happen though.
A short while ago, the independent disciplinary panel exploring the circumstances under which my samples tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine handed down a sanction. I will confirm that the panel handed down an 18-month suspension.
This ruling is not only unfair, it is patently unjust. Panels such as these, I understood, were assembled to allow athletes who, consciously or unconsciously come into conflict with the rules of sport, a chance at equitable redemption. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
As an athlete, I took a legal supplement—Ephiphany D1. As it turns out, that supplement was contaminated with oxilofrine. My team commissioned two private laboratories that confirmed that oxilofrine was present in the supplements, despite it not being listed as an ingredient on the bottle nor on it’s website. I would also like to share that upon realizing that the supplement contained oxilofrine my team made contact with both The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) who not only ordered samples of the supplement from the manufacturer, but also tested and confirmed our findings. The USADA has also since issued a warning on their website for athletes to avoid the product as it contains banned substances.
http://www.usada.org/forms.asp?uid=3588This is the 1st time in nearly 12 years of being in the sport and over 150 tests that I have had an adverse finding…it is for a stimulant… a stimulant that that is only banned during competition and experts have declared has no performance enhancing effects. Sanctions for a stimulant and this kind of infraction usually range from public warnings to a ban of three months, six months in the most extreme cases; I was and am still more than prepared to accept a sanction that is in line with the offense. Instead; 9 months later; what has been handed down is clearly not based on the offense nor the facts surrounding it.
My team has begun preparations for an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. I want to reiterate that I have never knowingly taken any banned substances, I did all the necessary checks before taking Ephiphany D1 and it is my hope that The CAS will prove to be a more open and fair avenue for the review of all the facts in my case; facts and truth that the were not taken into to consideration at my initial hearing.
Sounds, imo, like Jadco "getting tough" on doping by whacking a guy on his way out.
What has become of the lady that got the slap on the wrist? Did iaaf appeal that?
Ok, anyone else seriously pissed they dragged this out for almost a year?
Simpson, VCB, Powell, (Gay) all had positives early last year and they're just now being handed disciplinary (or lack of) measures.
Why are governing bodies allowing this to be dragged out for a year and giving the sport more bad press?
Is Jamaica that out of control were they will ruin the sport if we don't 'let' them dope?
Maybe every Jamaican needs to be banned in an extreme case.

I wonder if they are paying royalties for using that photo.

This is what I want to understand, how does someone run 9.7x supposedly clean and then can't run 10.0 when they're dirty?

I actually believe this.
I don't believe he has been clean through his career.
I think he has been careful with what he had been taking, how it would test and when he would be tested.
But he got tripped up by ingesting something that was not labeled properly.
An athlete that carefully dopes can get away with it.
It's mistakes that get them caught. And not caught with what made them really fast.
just another dirty jamaican sprinter
Possibly not enough evidence to nail him on the real deal, plead to lesser charge or similar. Or a handful of the JAMs took the fall for the big fish - all negotiated BTW.

If he plead or it's all negotiated, then why is Powell saying that he's going to appeal?
This only shows that the anti-doping is flawed. Powell is right. WADA/USDA wrong.

It's all for the bandwagoners, casual fans, sponsors, etc.
Powell's ban is really unfair, as he said. But this affaire had a negotiation between WADA, JADCO and probably Jamaican Government. Remember...the girl was going to blow the whistle against THE ENTIRE JAMAICAN DRUG TESTING SYSTEM. She knew ALL about Racers Group camp (Bolt, Blake, Weir, etc) She knew too much about Glen Mills, by the way.

Can anyone imagine now that Usain Bolt isn't drugged out of his mind? (Really, that should have been obvious the instant he ran 9.58, or even 9.69, even forgetting that that was 9.69 showboating.)
"Many stadiums are full because of him," Gebrselassie said. "What will happen after Usain Bolt, who will be the next star? How many spectators will come not just to watch (Bolt)? If you don't have Usain Bolt in the next two, three years we will be in trouble."

What an useless, factually erroneous and utterly misinformed post. At least he spelled Oxilofrine correctly.
Oxilofrine the magic drug that WADA allows out of competition. Geez man can some of you go buy a clue.
