Why is #161 on the starting line unless she wants to get trampled?

She must not have been trampled as she finished 86th out of 197. She was 69 yrs old when the race was run.
It's a Kenyan dressed as an old, white woman.
She did break the age group record for that race by 12 minutes and age graded over 84%.
Probably the adjusted number 1 runner in the race and that is why she has a spot in the front. Those behind her do not look on the verge of running a 5min/mile first mile (or a 6, or ...).
Your just jealous of my fame.
Weird is that list. I stapped looking when I realized the must-do 'races' are mud crawls and dress up parties. And the description under the race OP questioned says the race draws a top elite field. Looks to me like there are maybe 200 folks starting.
Hey, she paid her registration fee just like everyone else and has every right to start at the front if she wants!!!
(Seriously, I've heard this from a lot of idiots over the years.)
She is wearing a pair of mom jeans
The fastest guy off the line is wearing Vibrams!
A 43 minute 69 year-old woman deserves some respect, and a doping test.
She's an age-group ace. The big balding dude behind her is surprisingly fast as well.

A 43 minute 5K deserves some respect?
In what state was this race held?
I run with a 62 year old woman in Northern California that runs high 23's for 5K and a 65 year old woman who runs 25's.
Now if it was a 10K, I'd be blown away.
Ok. Props to her. 85 people did beat her so being on the front line is a little out of place. At least she's on the side so she won't block traffic. She did look very out of place when I first saw the photo. Props to her on a good run.
if you would be a little more observant, you'd notice that is was a 5-miler... ass.
I've run in some races where they have seeded runners at the front that include about 100 in a field of 5,000. Those seeded runners often include grand masters and seniors who will run much slower than some of those not seeded. Most are smart enough to know that and like this lady, run towards the side of the road so nobody will have a problem if they want to pass.
As for 68 year old respect, everybody here knows somebody that is faster. Anybody that can age grade 80% or over is running good times.

You're right I am an ass. I wasn't observant enough to notice that the race was a 5-miler not a 5K.
She still didn't deserve to be on the front line.
My 62 year old female friend who runs 7:45 pace for 5K never lines up on the front line and 7:45 pace for 5K is far superior to 8:36 pace for 5 miles.
As someone else said she was at least smart enough to start off to the side, but she still should have been back a few runners.
It is impressive that she is still racing at 69. There aren't many of us that old that are still racing. Running yes, racing no. 8:36 pace for 5 miles for a 69 year old woman isn't too shabby.
Just stay off the front line. I've been running for 40 years and have had to run around slow runners in every race I've ever run.

At the Germantown 5-mile?
There was like 2 good runners, 5 or 10 quality age-groupers and a bunch of joggers. How is she going to get trampled?
Sorry, when I'm gunning for the Masters or Grand Masters win, I'm on the front line. Don't care what the field looks like.
Good race by her but she did not win her age group. That was won by the 65 year old Alice Franks in 37:52
