Lately I've been browsing some of the old training threads and am blown away by what great, informative posts can be found there. Interesting topics and debates from actual competitive runners who can share their own experiences and observations. I am wondering if some sort of mass extinction event took place around 2004 that eradicated most of the intelligent discussion.
Nowadays, you can ask about depletion runs, and get a bunch of responses from people who have never done depletion runs, proclaiming it "the worst idea ever" (really, a worse idea than Germany invading the Soviet Union?). You can ask about running twice a day, and get a bunch of responses from people who have never run twice a day but feel the need to put in their two cents. You can open a thread about a major race, and you'll get expert critiques of race tactics from a bunch of people who haven't won anything higher than a dual meet 3200.
Simply, I am blown away.
