New AR for Shalane. Props to that.

Shalane gets PAID. Suck on it, Kara.
Hey, let's take something positive and make it negative!!!
Loser.
Great job to True and Shalane!!
Excellent sign for Shalane heading into Boston in 5+ weeks given she was likely training through this race. Not to get too carried away, but based on this result I'd expect her to be in the mix far more than previously.
nerdvana=stick with eHarmony?
Great, we know the winners... how about the rest of the field?
No results anywhere? WTF
True, Derrick, and Tim Ritchie closely behind. True is the man. He has better speed than Derrick and seems to be stronger on the roads than most.

Not necessarily. This is a very good 15k result, but doesn't mean she is prepared for the marathon - although I hope that she is prepared. What it may mean is that her best range is 5k- 1/2marathon. We will see in April, and I hope she hits one out of the park. That would certainly do her confidence some good as her marathons (given her under-distance speed) haven't yet been stellar. If any other American (than Deena) might be able to join the sub-2h20 club you would think it would be her.
I'm predicting a tailwind at Boston this year.janet weiss wrote:

So based on this result you think I should think she's less like to be in the mix at Boston.
Ok then.
*likely
Whoa bro ham. Dats osum. Dats ben's third USA road tile in da last 2 years. Also dats a new world leading time (it beat the 43:48 lead)
What was Shalane's 12K Split?
Where is True training? Definitely not in hanover this winter.
Great Run for True - 43:0x probably puts him looking somewhere around 27:45 for 10k right now. That is a good place to be for March.
True - 43:02Flanagan -46:59
LetsRun.com Update:Scott Bush had some live updates here:
True outkicked Derrick in the last mile for the win. Derrick, True and Tim Ritchie hit 10k in 28:52. Flanagan was WAY ahead throughout and hit 10k in 31:09. Deena Kastor's old AR was 47:15 from 2003. Flanagan gets an extra $5000 for the AR. In case you are wondering, the men's AR is 42:22 set by Todd Williams at Gate River in 1995.
Top 10 results are now out: Men's Results 1 Ben True 43:03 2 Chris Derrick 43:15 3 Tim Ritchie 43:24 4 Christo Landry 43:58 5 Matt Llano 44:02 6 Chris Barnicle 44:26 7 Jon Grey 44:37 8 Sean Quigley 44:43 9 Stephen Pifer 44:51 10 Jeremy Freed 44:51 Women's Results 1 Shalane Flanagan 47:03 2 Janet Bawcom 49:25 3 Amy Van Alstine 49:50 4 Alexi Pappas 50:06 5 Lindsey Scherf 50:31 6 Katie Dicamillo 50:36 7 Mattie Suver 50:41 8 Meghan Peyton 50:44 9 Alisha Williams 50:45 10 Kellyn Johnson 50:48
probably one of ritchie's best races
This is an excellent result for True as we already knew Derrick was in great shape.
I was talking to coach Coogan at Heps a few weeks ago and the feeling I took from that was while Derrick and Chelanga were focused on different things, it was clear True was in great shape - maybe even better shape than Chelanga and Chelenga had just run 13:05.
Let's hope True goes sub 13:00 this summer. I don't want to hear any crap about him not getting into a DL.

PS. Is sub 13:00 and sub 27:00 crazy to contemplate? Greedy but is is 100% certifiable to even type that?
