Crossfit claim: sub 5 mile and 500 lb squat in next 10 yrs

I think that someone who can only do "maybe" 185 should not arrive at conclusions about what is and isn't possible. This is easily possible. Ashton Eaton could probably do this today. Neither feat is that crazy.

Sub 5 is a good time for age 60.

I was thinking eaton too. Quick search shows a 4:14 1500 for him so he's definitely sub 5 but 500 lbs is a lot of weight. No need for douchey snarkiness

It's not douchey snarkiness. It's a tip so you don't sound stupid in the future. 500 lbs is not a lot of weight for an elite athlete. There are people squatting over 1000 pounds. You should easily be able to squat 2-3 times your body weight. Your legs are significantly underdeveloped. You should be BENCHING more than 185.

Riiiiight....tons of sub 5 guys walking around that can squat 3 times their weight. That's 420 for your average 140 lb runner. I get it that lots of big dudes can squat 500 and every high school kid on a track team can break 5. Who can do both?

I don't see this happening, that's a shit load of weight to squat. Heavy squatting can only be counter-productive to distance running.

Once again, someone only squatting 185 should not be arriving at conclusions. What Arnold did is irrelevant. He was not training for strength. He was training for size and looks. Yes, there is a huge difference between bodybuilding and competitive weight lifting.

Oh boy...if anything Arnold would have more cardio than a pure strongman because of the way body builders train and he could not hit 500 and no way he could run 5. You seem to be straying from the question. Your initial post made it seem like this would be a piece of cake....seems not

I don't know why you are saying "riiiight". I never said that there were a ton of sub 5 guys walking around that can squat 3 times their weight. What I actually said was that people should easily be able to squat 2-3 times their weight.

And how do you know that there aren't that many sub 5 guys that can squat 3 times their weight? Have you actually conducted a survey and figured it out? Or are you once again basing your notions of what is possible solely on your 185 lb squat?

Arnold was not training to hit 500 nor was he training to run sub 5. I didn't say anything at all about strongmen so why are you bringing them up? Wait. Please don't tell me that you think strongmen = competitive weight lifting. Is that what you think?

And no I'm not straying at all. You keep bringing up irrelevant or obviously false information and I'm having to run around and correct you.

My initial post did not make it seem like a piece of cake. Nor did anything in meantime make it seem not. The feat is easily possible if you are specifically training to do it. But who is trying to do it? The only people who I would guess could do this today without specifically training for it are a top decathlete or a similar athlete. Maybe a smaller football player.

Once again, stop bringing up Arnold. He was not training to be stronger. What he could or could not do is irrelevant. I've said this multiple times, so why do you continue to bring him up?

And yes, my 2-3 xbodyweight argument has everything to do with this. It means that someone out there weighing 500/2-3 should be able to do this. And it also serves to provide to you much needed perspective about what is actually normal for weight lifting capability.

How much do you weigh anyway? For perspective, the world record for a 165 (since you brought up that weight) lb person is around 670 pounds. Omg yes that is more than Arnold who weighed 240 and couldn't do 500.

I keep bringing up Arnold because I want to provide an example of what it takes to squat 500. He couldn't do it. I understand that there are stronger individuals who can squat 500. None can go sub 5...that's all I'm saying. I'll end my conversation with you by saying I think that the anaerobic capability plus fast twitch muscle required to squat 500 would make it impossible to go sub 5....but maybe in 10 years someone will (at least if they crossfit)

I could do a 5:15 mile while squatting well over 500 at 230 pounds. I have to believe it's possible, especially for a taller athlete. I'm just 6''0.

Now that I'm a hobby jogger I doubt if I can squat 400 and can barely break 6 minutes...ugh! Getting old sucks.
