derrick, as true hasnt raced this year yet
derrick, as true hasnt raced this year yet
True is in great shape and training like a beast for this race - should be interesting ,,
What's the course like?
Is True a strength runner?
true is a strength runner - he is defending champ - ran last 5k in 14:18 last year including huge bridge in final 5k
How do their track PRs compare?
It seems odd to me that both of these guys skipped track this winter. I hope it means that they are working more on strength and these months of aerobic development will take them into the summer with the strength to go after big PR's over 5k and 10k. These two are my favorite pros and one day I want to see them both go sub-13 or sub-27.
Chris Derrick will run his first road race March 15th at Gate River Run (15k National Championship) - Ben True - defending champ is back - as is Bobby Curtis, Shaddy Biwott, Sean Quigley, Tyler Pennel, Matt Llano, Fernando Cabada, Tim Ritchie, Christo Landry, Chris Barnicle ... who ya got ?

Derrick just ran and won easily xc nationals so he's obviously in shape. I don't understand why so many people didn't even attempt to make it to World Indoors. It's the only major championship this year.
Only 2 get to go to Worlds and with both Rupp and Lagat running 3,000 (as well as Ryan Hill) - many I am sure felt odds of even making team were very long ... not to mention no $$ - instead a couple of nice warm road races as strength building and a likely nice payday - then outdoor - not a terrible season plan ..

What do you mean no money? There's money for both US nationals and worlds.
Hot damn of all years not to be running! Darn
Course is pretty flat the whole way except the Hart Bridge at the end (a mountain for a flatlander but not really too bad with some hills in your legs). Great race. Great event. Bill Rodgers shows up a lot. I think the world best 15k was set on it or some variation of it?
I'm callin Derrick for this one
I second "reed"'s post. If True had been racing, I'd go with him FTW.
Derrick
True
Curtis
The American Record was set there by Todd Williams. Back in the 90s, you essentially ran the course the opposite way it's run now. Runners climbed the Green Monster (Hart Bridge) in the first couple miles, not the last.
factually inaccurate ... This was the only year of the last 36 that the race did NOT start and finish NORTH of the river .... race was in the exact same direction as it is now - it started just south of the Main Street Bridge (the little bridge) - and finished in same place - big bridge (Hart Bridge) occurred at 7 miles - not 8 ... and runners did get advantage of the much longer downhill ramp back into downtown ...
Let's move on .. the Salazar story is already getting tiring ..
The next big DISTANCE MATCH-UP ..

Fannin, this thread is hilarious.
"True is in great shape and training like a beast for this race."
Maybe he is in great shape, but he is not training like a beast "for this race". He's training for the track season. Gate River is a rust buster/warmup race for him, as it is for most of the elites that are attending.
Your constant Facebook posts suggest that Gate River is just one notch below the Olympics on the importance scale. It's just another big road race. Nobody is peaking for it, it's just an early season fitness test. Yes the field is great, but it's not hard to convince someone to take a "free" trip to Florida in March. It's a stepping stone to Mt Sac and the Stanford meets, or else a spring marathon.
I'm excited for this race. I expect Chris Derrick to blow away the field here
Geez Hobbit .. Aren't you grouchy ... I really don't care why they come or whether they are pointing for it or not - as long as they show and give it their all on race day ... There is a lot of competition for athletes and we do the best we can to make it a great weekend - and yes - hype it up .. If it bothers you, just "de friend me" ... Cowardly anonymous poster ...
I defriended you because of your outspoken political beliefs. Your promotion of the race is a good thing.
