if true, it decisively removes paula's official/unofficial 65'40 completely from record books
pity she isn't running 10k on the track because paula had gone 30'01 year before her 65'40 - florence must be in hugely sub-30 shape, maybe even as fast as 29'40 shape
Video of the arrival
McMillan calculator gives line of fit of
14:05
29:15
65:12
2:17:14
sounds believable to me considering how much she took of the previous WR Paula* mark.
Just when you thought you'd never see another womens WR the East Africans find their special "medicine man drops" and destory previous middle and long distance records.

Basically, she would have to find another FULL MINUTE in the half marathon before she can even think of attacking Paulas Marathon WR.
Off the charts, yep.
According to Canova if you can run 1:05 then you should he able to run 2:15 with the "CORRECT" training....

Didn't the IAAF reject her 2:15:25 (just recently) because it was not run against women only competition? One of her 2:17s is currently the WR I believe.

They reverted their decision on this one.
WR is 2:15:25 will stand for another 25-30 years.

I did not know that.
I agree with keeping the 2:15 mark. I also agree that it will last as long as you suggest it will. Crazy time.
Does anyone know the splits. Could be a WR over 15k and 10 miles. Certainly a record over 20k.
Found the splits on the website off the race.
15:49
15:19 ( 31:18)
15:28 ( 46:36) 8 sec off dibaba's record
15:20 ( 1:01:56) WR record by 40 sec
3:16 (2:59/km) for 1:05:12 record by 38 sec
At 15 km she was only 4 sec faster then Mary keitany in 2011
So slow opening then a pick up in pace with 15:24 average over 5k
Here fastest 15k was worth a world record ( 46:07)
Fastest 10k (30:47), 19th time ever run.
So an amazing run for Florence kiplagat!
The official time is 1:05:14.
The organisers did a big mistake, not requesting official timing at 20 km (unofficial time was 1:01:56, with 31'09" + 30'47").
Florence ran the last 1095m in 3'18", with the last 5 km at 3'02"4 average.
I prepared a table looking at 1:05:30, thinking the record could be bettered already last Friday by Priscah Jeptoo, who lost the opportunity because of very slow first 5 km.
However, 1:05:14 is faster than my expectations.
I started to put in the mind of Florence the possibility to try the WR in December, when I saw her shape better than ever, considering the seasonal period.
We, in Agreement with her management (Global), choose a fast HM like Barcelona (I know very well, since Abel Kirui won in 2012 in 60:27 and Eliud Kipchoge last year in 60:04), for not having the mental problem to look for winning the race, situation that she could find running RAK, and we didn't want to publicize the attempt, for preserving full concentration without being disturbed before the race.
This is a great record, but looking at London Marathon can only show the possibilities of Florence. For being able to run under 2:17 the problem is TRAINING, and I don't think still possible something like this in 2 months time, since during the last month we prepared specifically this attempt, and the preparation for full Marathon is obviously very different from what Florende did.
I agree with Ventolin that Florence can currently run under 30' in a race on track of 10000m, instead about Marathon I still have some doubt. The next period can decide the real goal for London.
Great insight, Renato. I was wondering if she trained through it from her training towards London or prepared specifically. This clears it up.
Two months should be plenty of time to get her ready. Maybe not for 2:17 but 2:18 high should be enough for a win anyway.
@Renato: any chance we're going to see her in the summer attempt the 10,000 WR?
thank you Renato but please don't agree with ventolin
it only inflames his giant ego
Ventolin is by far the best analyst on these boards!
second to RC off course:)

some of his stuff is good
he doesn't admit mistakes and ignores PED use in his posts
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
