I'll come back to this thread in 6 years and either laugh or say I told you so.

She'll probably be like Hasay. Never living up to peoples expectations.

This is doubtful. What's happening is she is slowing down intentionally.
She has expert coaching now to prevent early burnout unlike Hasay and Webb. College system burns up runners. Hasay raced/trained way too much. Yes, I expect to hear from "A Duck", but the truth is plain to see.
I say 3:54 and I'll make sure to bump this thread then.
something is going to happen this is ridiculous

That will be hard since this thread will most likely be deleted by the end of the day.

4:54... she could probably walk that.
Didn't she just PR and come .01 off of a world junior record last night? How is she getting slower?

Not slower, but decelerating in progress and probably holding back intensity of workouts for future success? I'm not a coach, so who knows. Isn't that a good strategy instead of going too deep to the well too early like Webb did?
1500 split was a current WL (4:06.63) so yeah I'm not sure either.

At age 24 haile gebreselassie was done too....
Regarding Jordan Hasay, seriously? Can we drop the whole "not living up to expectations" bit? She graduated Oregon in four years as one of the most decorated runners in the NCAA. She scored points for her team left, right, and center, and has how many All-American honors? This isn't even a personal or fan defense: I actively root against Oregon all the time. But the premise is just ridiculous.
I've been following track and field for a long time now, and Jordan Hasay met or exceeded just about every rational person's expectations for her collegiate career. She was great. She didn't walk away with as many NCAA titles as I am sure she, her coaches, her teammates, or Oregon fans might have wished (and she stumbled a bit moving to the 10,000 on the track), but part of that is racing. And part of it is life. Sometimes it seems like track fans build up hype around young talent, always in search of The One, to the point that those runners can never meet or exceed expectations because the expectations are patently absurd. Jordan Hasay is a phenomenal runner, will continue to be a phenomenal runner, and the fact that she isn't superhuman shouldn't be a knock against her career, past, present, or future.
On the subject of Mary Cain, let's get excited about the races she's running next month. Predictions for the Millrose Games?
Seeing her only manage to run 4:54 in 6 years would be the most depressing thing ever. Her 5k pace is faster than that right now...
This is a ridiculous thread.
Agree. Jordan is currently ranked second in the USA in the 10K. She placed 12th in the world in Moscow. She is only 22 years old and every race she runs she improves. Expectations? Please wake up track fans.
Tell us more Nostradamus! Will Usain Bolt break the 800m record or push Jamaica to the bobsled gold in the next Winter Olympics. Please tell us more...
She has already surpassed my expectations, and those are pretty high....

I'm fairly confident (90%) Cain will ultimately be as successful as Rupp. Yes, let's revisit this thread in about six yrs.
I think she would most likely DNF before finishing in 4:54. Either that, or the OP meant to put 3:54 in the subject line.

Was it faster than her 1500 PR converted? If not, then she is indeed slower.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
