When you have the surgery, how many days do you need to plan to be out of work? I am a teacher and want to have surgery on Thursday and return on Monday, is this possible?
Hi,
I had bilateral surgery with both adductors released. I have some adductor pain. It is better then after surgery with Dr Meyers(5 weeks ago) but still very present. At this point it is the only thing preventing me from playing hockey. Whenever I do sudden movements, my splits or butterflies it hurts. Does anyone have the same pain? Any exercice to help improve this? I am using a theraband and does not seem to help. Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks
Marc
ooops, I am at 6 weeks, sorry. I realize 6 weeks is not a very long time but according to Dr Meyers I should be able to play hockey.
thanks guys
Anyone every heard of people being treated in the UK by a guy called David Lloyd? He seems to run this clinic
and also this is him

my insurance will likely cover him compared to Dr Um where they wont so just looking for advice.
thanks
What is the Llloyd Release Procedure?
I'm glad to see this thread is working again.
I have an appointment with Dr. Kattey in Milwaukee on Aug 12th. I heard he can tell from an exam whether you have a sports hernia or not. Can anyone who has seen him tell me what he finds that determines whether you have one or not?
to ade - I have no idea what the lloyd release procedure is but if i goto speak with him i will let you know. I was made aware of him through a sports MD in London.
I was wondering if sexual activity at week 10 would hurt my surgery? It has been hurting the past couple of days, and I was wondering if I maybe undid some of the surgery?
Wow! What a thread… amazing.
I have been playing soccer through right groin pain for almost a year now. Things stared quite slowly:
- at first just some pain in right (kicking leg) groin while making log range passes and shots on goal. I was able to do anything else without pain. I noticed that abb-strengthening exercise were bringing some relief.
- Then about 4 months later the pain would appear while sprinting - I noticed as well some lower right back pain – possibly I was putting more strain on my lower back as I was trying to position my body in a way which would limit pressure on my groin while kicking the ball.
- Another 2 months and I was unable to sprint 100%. Pain in lower back and groin (on the edge of lower right abbs) was enormous during exercises and even worse afterwards.
- I saw a physio, 15 sessions of bull crap electrodes on my lower back and afterwards I was able to sprint at 95%. I was told most likely so called referred pain from my lower back to my groin…
- 2 months on and I got some treatment from chiro (far better service then physio) and my back pain is not so bad, but my groin is just killing me.
- Last week I played a game (after a good warm-up I was able to play quite OK, but as game went on I could feel more and more weakness in my groin. I finished the game but I got all those new pains and the back of my lower end of ass and this funny pain in my left groin! Of course my right groin (mostly lower abbs) was in pain too….
- 4 days after the game over all pain has gone down by I am not able to do a sit-up due to pain in my right groin (lower abbs)
My plan of attack, I am going to have Ultrasound next week and go from there… As I live in aussie-land not many good/accessible soccer doctors but there are a few rugby team specialists which claim to be spec in the groin conditions… I have 3 possible names and I am planing to see 2 of them so I see how things turn out.
What is a bit freakish in this tread is the feeling that any chronic groin pain = SH and knife is the only option… I have seen stats from Gilmore’s clinic in London (on their website) and it seems only about 50-60% referred patiens were operated… How is it with our German saint lady???

My situation gets more and more strange. Was diagnosed about a year ago with SH (2nd degree tear of the rectous abdomonous) Pain has been up and down and seemed to move around, but always in the groin/hip area. I always and continue to have pain that shoots down the inner part of my thighs down to my knees.
The weird thing is, the groin/hip pain seems to have "moved" more to my lower back now. Anyone ever experience anything like this?
Is a tear to rectous abdomonous a part of SH business too??? I see we start to fall into the “all groin pain = sh” trap…
I am not a doc but from my experience/research on the net most tears to muscles will heal with proper care. I am suspecting/hoping to have torn abdominal muscle – will find out next week – hopefully!
As it comes to lower back pain… there is that referred pain theory but I think it is utter crap when it comes to sports people. My PT treated me for referred back/groin pain (which comes first???) for 2 months and NOTHING! I see so called “referred pains” on corresponding muscles as the result of your (at times unconscious) adjustments to the way your body moves to reduce the pressure on painful muscles.
I had groin pain for a couple of months and then the pain spread to my lower back. My back muscles are still stiff (after 2 months of treatments) as they copped over 6 months of extra pressure…
If I were you I would definitely check whether you have torn muscles – and if yes have them healed 100% and at the same time get some chiro (PTs suck!) to work on you back….
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. I guess it should have been noted that I am a competitive tennis player/teaching pro and am on the court 7 days a week. I have never rested this injury. It just seems odd that so much of the pain seems to have shifted from the groin area to my back- but I can't help but think this is somehow the same injury.
You should have a hip specialist examine you. A problem with the hip could be responsible for both pain in the the groin and in the lower back. I used to play tennis and hockey and suffered from the same symptons resulting from hip impingment.
This has been a really weird injury that I’ve been dealing with for just about a year now I think. It is so strange how the pain has seemingly moved around. As for the groin pain, I definitely get the most pain from shooting pains down my inner thigh towards my knees which are also both very inflamed/tender from tendonitis I assume. The back is really giving me problems lately- it even pops a bit sometimes when I sit down, stretch it a certain way, etc. and it’s strange you mention the hip because prior to the back giving me problems my left hip was problematic to the point I could not lift my left leg off the ground from a lying down position. When I do it now, with either leg I do get a pulling/pain on the left side in the left hip/groin area. I have never rested this or any other injuries I have sustained from tennis, I have just learned to deal with the pain and compensate in diff. ways.
The initial diagnosis came from a Sports Med. Dr. who had me lie on my back and try and left my legs while he pushed in certain areas around the abs- when I couldn’t do it, he told me I had a “second degree tear of the rectous abdomonous” I didn’t follow through with any phys. Therapy etc. and have continued to play daily. I wonder if I have made things worse or created other injuries as well. Any more insight as compared to what you went through would be appreciated. Thanks
For those of you who have had the surgery, then had what appeared to a recurrence a few months into recovery, what were your eventual outcomes? Did things turn for the better, are you still having issues?
from what i can determine the lloyd release is based on cutting the inguinal ligament, to me that sounds scary as dont you need that?
Hi Jeff;
I am in the same boat. Was doing great until I lifted my 40 lb. daughter. I guess I got to call Meyers on Monday. How did you end up?
Janet
Im a 21 year old female with pain in my groin after I run. The pain only lasts until the next day or two then it goes away. I only run on the weekends so around wednesday I start feeling better again. When I do have the pain I feel it the most when I walk, try to get in and out of a car or bed. It also have pain when I sneeze even on days when it doesn't hurt to walk or run. I've had an x-ray and an MRI both came back negative. I was also given Mobic which doesn't help. Any ideas on what it can be?
