There are probably a number of reasons why Meyers doesn't operate on a high number of patients. One being that the symptoms may not have been completely consistent with a sports hernia. I would not speculate any further, but there is still a chance you can heal such an injury if it is not a stage with a significant tear.
I was having very good success with PT. As a matter of fact, I thought it was going away. But because I felt really good and loose, I aggravated it by increasing the intensity of my therapy too soon. The pain was terrible for a week and I developed problems with my hip after that. Since then, I rested and started PT again with some success.
I am able to walk and do most things without any discomfort. I can probably get by without surgery as you probably can also -- until you do something to aggravate it. So yes, you can probably delay it unless you are experiencing serious pain. But if you are expecting to exercise, run, play sports, the chances are slim that you will be able to do so without surgery. I am steal hoping that I can heal on my own, although I'm trying to be realistic.
