You can go back to May or June to read my whole story, but I took 7 months off from soccer, periodically jogging just to test things out. After about 5 months I felt pretty good and ramped up my jogging, but avoided soccer until I knew what was really going on.
At 7 months I saw Dr. UM and she diagnosed me with the bilateral inguinal hernia. She said the pubalgia that showed on my MRI was not a sports hernia (as another doctor diagnosed), but a result of muscle tension in the pubic region due to the widening of the groin canal from the hernia. She also said that other pains I mentioned were probably the result of nerve contact and that if I had surgery it would fix my pains. She said I could start playing soccer, but just to know that I am more susceptible to groin strains due to the muscle tension in the pubic region.
I started playing soccer right away and haven't looked back. I don't have any pains, but occasionally feel a sensation in the inguinal area. Everything Dr. UM said sounded good and she seemed genuine, but as I've mentioned before I'm not sure I didn't just have a groin strain unlike any I've had before. I don't doubt that I have the hernia, but it doesn't seem to be the problem and since there's no bulge and no immediate concern I'm holding off on surgery.
