That is sports. No one freaks out on someone when they say they hate the Yankees in baseball yet runners tend to get their panties in a bunch when you express dislike towards a runner. You want track to be respected as a real sport, bring on the hate.
All that said and saying up front I don't like Rupp because of his personality, the Salazar factor and the fact he went to Oregon I respect the hell out of what he has accomplished. People can hate the Yankees but if they don't acknowledge they're one if the best baseball franchises ever they're a fool, same goes for Rupp as a runner.
