I would love to hear a decent explanation as to why Galen Rupp is foregoing the New Balance Grand Prix at the Reggie to chase the AR in the mile at a random collegiate meet at BU. Yes, AlSal has a love affair with the BU track and Galen loves to hear the college kids shout his name, but come on. The Reggie is a world-class facility (several world records on it), and it is almost an affront to the track community to stage an attempt of this profile on the SAME EVENING everybody will be watching New Balance. The Grand Prix is a golden opportunity for boston area fans to watch truly world class competition once a year. The turnout and the environment are fantastic, and the crowd loves their distance runners. It's a joke that this crowd, and the track community, should be torn between watching this world class meet and watching a single record attempt on another track at the same time, 3 miles away. For god's sake, the rest of the oregon project are running at new balance anyway. Rupp and the NOP are out of touch.
