Columbia and WEST Point should reach out and get Hayes, He is a West point Grad and would do very well at either institution.

Word I heard is that they are talking with their assistant, former Hawkeye standout Matt Esche as well as a couple outside canidates. I have no idea on their timeline.
Wrong. Great hire, name someone else with high integrity who has experience working with elite distance runners and elite distance coaches, who knows the conference and has worked hand in hand with one of the winningest coaches in the history of the conference. Experience comes in many forms, I'd wager that Fife has forgotten more about training elite runners, than you'll ever know. People here think coaching HS kids, or volunteering at a college prepares them for doing it at the D1 level. Keep applying to every job posting and keep b1tching on here every time you don't get an interview. I've worked in the NCAA 12 years now at 3 different schools and haven't applied to any of them. If you were worth your salt they would call you, and everyone here who's made it knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Mr. Rogers wrote:Agreed, but that has nothing to do with someone getting an opportunity and taking advantage of it. There are lots of coaches who got one opportunity and made the most of it even if they had very little experience. Some will falter due to lack of experience, but knowing Jordan he isn't one of those people. MSU needs a change and someone young, energetic, extremely familiar with the conference, and learned from a great coach sounds like a good hire to me.
Yet another BS hire. This profession has becoming a joke. When more people without experience can get hired over people with experience.
Hayes was a Georgia grad actually. His dad was a West Point grad. But agree with you - he will get picked up this summer.

We don't need the Mexicans (Manzano) and Canadians (Rae) teaming up to beat our AMERICAN milers.
Last I checked Leo was wearing a USA singlet. Go back to your double wide and I do agree Hayes will be picked up soon for sure, great coach.

Then what's the new news?
Where's he going?
Candidates for Columbia?
Hayes went to West Point for a year or two. He'd be a great hire for Army given he was XC and Distance coach at Air Force before TX. Given that Engle handled middle distance and distance, I'd think they'd lean that way as well. I also think he's reached a point in life where he knows the grass isn't always greener and he'd be likely to put down some roots and stay awhile.

At this point it looks internal. Maybe as others said earlier Hayes though? Or Alex Gibby?
