And the problem with Head Track coaches hiring other coaches of various events is that...
They don't know anything about other events!
It's sad, but the days of coaches being able to coach every event are gone. The days of Bill Bowerman and Tom Tellez knowing each and every event are pretty much over.
So what you get now is a Sprint coach not knowing anything about distance trying to figure out who is talking BS and who actually knows what is going on. Or a Distance coach who has no idea about throws doing that hiring.
The Assoc Head Coach at UCLA coaches sprints through 1500 and all the field events. He coaches all the multis from beginner level to world class. When he was a DII head coach he coached every event at some point.
Not enough guys like Coach Hoyt. Rare gem...

Cross Idaho State off the list. Dave Neilson is not going anywhere. The U of Idaho filled their opening with Cawley. I think he needs a full complement of assistants. Anyone know how many he will get, or who is in the running?
The Big Sky is a step above the WAC, but I think the U of Idaho will have the funding to be up there with the top third of teams. Good possible job for northwestern assistants.
Confused here, don't you mean assistant coaching staff announced at WSU, not Idaho?
I don't think the new Idaho coach (from CSU) has announced yet.
So what was going on at the University of Idaho. I checked their website for XC results and it is out of date back to 2006. To me that shows no respect for the athletes or the sport. I was there because UofI came up as a good academic fit for my incoming senior. With the lack of interest in distance that they show on the website we elected not to visit.
Actually UI is solid in distance, what they're not good at is PR/sports information/marketing. Their A.D. is clueless, too. But they've won a bunch of women's X-C conference titles. A bad conference, yes, but they won them. But you would be correct: They are horrific with their website, statistics, historical records, and PR. The A.D. doesn't care so the SID doesn't care, etc.
It's one of the worst managed D-1 athletic departments in the country.
It's seems to me that coaches are just being recycled from one team to another. Coaches get fired and hired 1 week later, no one is asking questions as to why they were fired. If you've been coaching 10 years you're guaranteed a job. Does anyone look at athlete progression when hiring? Probably not, just looking at awards. Which is why you see coaches hired and 2 years later they are fired.

If this is true, then where is BOOGIE Johnson?!
Wasn't there an opening at Miami???
And I'm ASSuming you can add Kentucky sprints to that list as well
According to google he's with HSI. He's only a year removed from NCAA violations so he will probably be coaching in 2015 again at the college level. Disclaimer: I had no idea who he was until i google searched him
Anthony Acklin is the new sprints coach!! Good guy GREAT COACH
From what I have heard - Idaho is very poorly funded. Low pay - low budgets - only 3 full time assistants. They will struggle in the big sky... The WAC the past several years was horrible... any average team (some high school teams)could have won that conference.
