Just to make it known I am a head Division I coach. I DO get it. Because WSU is just doing nothing candidates that MIGHT have taken the job are no pulling out. That does not help anyone. And everyone is just waiting. If they didn't want to hire someone until this summer they should have just waited. The whole manner in which WSU handled this is incompetent.

If I may be so bold Mr. or Mrs. D1 Head coach....which struggling program are you associated with? It is obvious you applied for this position, did not make the final list and are now flexing your obnoxious opinion about how a program you were not even qualified for is handling their business.

Coach Phipps.. I'm sure he is a fine person and coach. Rodney has proved himself as an elite coach and more importantly has Cougar Ties as an Alum. Just makes more sense. Also - D1 coach above - I agree 100 percent! This process has been handled terribly for all involved. Embarrassing as a Coug to watch.

Im sorry you cant comprehend the word "obtuse". When all is said and done. Wayne Phipps is going to be the new WSU track and field head coach. If and only if he does not withdraw his name from the running because of Moos' fiasco. Part of me wonders if Moos is doing this in hopes he withdraws, so he can higher a less experienced, and less qualified Rodney. Why take Rodney? he recruits in Australia? Phipps recruits well in Australia and Canada. I'd like to be the first to say, Congratulations coach Phipps on the WSU job, I know you will do great!

The decision for most AD's to "wait" to hire new coaches is the simple fact the longer they wait the more money they save in the mean time. AD's care about money above all and if they have a coaching vacancy they can use the extra cash to make sure other area's aren't over budget or to put some band-aids on a gun shot...

If you look at in business terms, you fire or lose one of your VP's or Manager's, you have someone below them keep things in order while you take a few months to save the salary of the previous person, that could also be used to offer a higher salary for the next hire as well, or pay bonuses for current Spring Coaches that are performing at high levels.

Coach at at Top 30 program in DI. Did not apply, happy where I'm at. Just disappointed that most folks can't comprehend simple respect for the sport like you. But thanks for cleaning my toilets at the supermarket I appreciate sitting down on a clean toilet seat. But you'd better get to work before you lose your minimum wage job. Out.

Look for PITT opening a job AGAIN! The less qualified, less knowledgeable, less experienced, the more chances you have to get. Alonzo Webb's ego got in his way AGAIN.

What about Rodney makes him a more proven elite coach than Phipps? Both have coached Olympians and NCAA All-Americans. The glaring difference I see is one has head coaching experience and the other doesn't. Being a good technical coach doesn't always mean you have what it takes to handle being a head coach. I would caution anyone on being arrogant and hiring a Coug over a head coach. Don't "Coug it" WSU, the answer is right it front on your face.
