Any idea on who is the front runner for Army?
Any idea on who is the front runner for Army?

Do you know for sure that Ireland has accepted that position at Columbia?
As far as I know, no one knows for sure. According to these forums he was only on Columbia's campus today for a 2nd interview whether it was confirmed Ireland got the job or not has yet to be released publicly. I suspect Columbia will make an announcement later this week or early next week.
Anyone else can correct me.
I've heard Duke is close to announcing. Anyone have any information on that one?
Kebba Tolbert to KY??

I know he has published a book or two, but has he really done anything?
Yep, agreed! wrote:

I've heard from the athletics staff that they thought they'd have a finalist "within a week". I'm not sure what details need to be worked out once an offer is extended.
Thats just a plane ignorant statement. He has worked wonders for that team. He deserves any thing that comes his way. I wonder what Harvard would do with out him ?!?
Any word on the Hillsdale College opening?

Ireland - good hire for us or not?
Yes, if the AD wants to recreate the old Columbia xc tradition before Wood got there.
2010 Heps xc - Yale 7th
2009 Heps xc - Yale 7th
2008 Heps xc - Yale 7th
2007 Heps xc - Yale 8th
Does the AD undertand xc isn't like football? You want less points, not more.
Moose to UConn , released yesterday.
Julie Benson is a finalist at Army. I would bet there is a strong possibility she gets the job. Sure would be a short "retirement" from coaching.

If you are going to respond to someone's quote, it might help to put their quote up so we know what you are talking about without having to look back through the thread to see.
Actually he most likely isn't a good hire at all.
He has a tendency to jump ship when he isn't coaching a team full of naturally talented runners. Yale wasn't in a good spot when he left, and now he is trying to leave La Salle after coaching a class (now graduated) that got him 2 conference titles.
Essentially, Ireland can coach winning teams.
But he can't build one.
La Salle isn't a national caliber team ready to take home a regional or national title.
Columbia is.
Pete Herber from South Florida to the University of Utah.
3 white males for a women's only program? All with a connection to northern iowa. Way to go out on a limb!
Plane ignorant? Thanks for the laugh!

Ireland was at Yale for over a decade. He went to LaSalle for the chance to be the head of the program
If he leaves LaSalle for Columbia, it would be for the chance to be the head of program at a higher level school.
His LaSalle distance runners got better fast. His Yale teams trended downward, but that was along with the whole track/XC program, which suffers from the smallest number of supported admissions and toughest standards in the Ivy League.
So I don't know if Ireland would be good for Columbia, but I know he's not a guy who jumps around
