Dis gonna be good.
He could have gone 3:29 in 2012 based on his 800 training alone. I see a 3:27 with some miles under his belt. He will easily attain the lowest combined 800/1500 time ever.

I'll never understand how some of you folks are so sure of how good someone will be at a distance that they have never raced before.
Maybe he's going to run the 1400. The article mentions the "three and a half lap race" a couple of times. Last time I checked, the 1500 was the three and three quarters lap race.
Looks like Symmonds can't escape Rudisha

I really don't see him as a good 1500m runner; even for the 1000m I'm sceptical. 800m seems to be his limit, 700m maybe would be his perfect distance. Maybe he proofs me totally wrong, but I doubt it.
The absolute slowest I could see a 1:40-1:41 guy run is 3:34 if he were in good shape. If he added some training into his program that was specific to 1500m, it's likely he could run 3:31 or faster, possibly as fast as 3:28 (probably not faster though). I would say 3:30-3:32 is most likely since it sounds like he still wants the 800m to be his focus and his 400m background.
No way he breaks 3:30. He's more of a 400/800 type like gray/cruz etc.
Just look at his SIZE for christ's sake...imagine him running along the wraiths like kiprop/guerrouj/morceli....
I can't wait until he smashes and you idiots are left with egg on your faces.
Unlikely. He's a 400-type 800 runner, much like his world record predecessor Wilson Kipketer. Kipketer, who ran only .20 slower than Rudisha had a 1500 best of 3:42.80. If Rudisha could break 3:40 that would be very good.

Not many 400 guys are as thin as Rudisha. I think he's more of a...runner...like anything from 400 up to 10000. Just a matter of his motivation.

Get the f***** out you pedantic lil f*****
If he is serious about this, he is going to be very, very good at it, because Rudisha does not race when he thinks he may fail or just to finish, say, tenth in a setup Euro race. But of course many stars get extra press coverage by talking about moving up in distance and it rarely happens. If is serious about this, I would not be at all surprised to see him well under 3:30 in a race with good pacers. He does not slow down a lot in the 800m, even without pacers (1:40.9 at London). He does not have the classic build of a miler. However, you do not have to be a wraith to do well at the mile. He wouldn't star at 5000m. 1500m isn't that far. If Symmonds can run 3:34, and likely better with some more specific training, then Rudisha will be at least in Farah territory.

Based off his 45.50 and 1:40.91, I'd say 3:31.74

Rudisha's advantage over Symmonds at 400 is greater than his advantage at 800. This suggests that his advantage (if any) at 1500 may be smaller than at 800. It is very possible that he will not break 3:34.

Jeremy Wariner is 150 lbs, 7 pounds less than Rudisha. Asbel Kiprop is 140 lbs., 17 less than Rudisha. Rudisha's 6'3", which makes him look skinny but he's quite heavy for a 1500 runner.

Keep in mind the 400 is run without a draft since the guys stay in their own lanes. Rudisha ran his 800 PR on the front the entire time, no draft. Symmonds ran his PR while drafting the last 700. Big BIG difference. Has Symmonds ever broken 1:45 leading the entire way?
I'm not knocking Nick for racing smart, but to think he's going to beat Rudisha in a 1500 if Rudisha is serious about it is just asinine.
