You're seriously crazy if you think anyone's fan base is going to be adversely affected by running or not running a race. Think back five years ago when hardly any elites ran this race. No one cared. This is Club XC Nats, it's a big race but only big to a few thousand of those on the board who care. This is being blown way out of proportion.
Teg won this race back in the day so I don't know that I agree that no one has ever cared about the race.
What does not rupp certified mean?

This must have been one of the last times World Cross was over a reasonable Cross Country course
You seem to have forgotten Belfast 1999.
Can't believe people are complaining about a 'hard' XC course.
Its XC! Its meant to look like the battle of the Somme. That video of the 1983 Gateshead meet is the mild end of what european XC is like.

Im very shocked that people are also complaining about the NOP pulling out of the race. It sounds like the course would to be too risky to allow even the remote chance of hurting one of their athletes. I see it as a smart choice. I agree, its a bummer they are not running, but I would rather see them run all of next year during world-class races instead of risking getting one hurt for a "fun" local race.

You do realize this race is run in different locations every year throughout the country don't you?
Beside that, most of the NOP guys already had other plans today.
You can be the judge if you think this will enhance their performances.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp6CXSZbncwFirst of all, shut it assduck. Second, why would anyone ever want the NOPe dopers to run anywhere?
Pat Porter must be rolling over in his grave. The tougher the condition's the more he enjoyed the race a true Hard man..
I love it how one, polite, well timed Oregon Project tweet gets some on these boards all crazy and nearly hijacks the news for the day. But to the real issue:What commitment did the Oregon Project or Alberto ever make? Did they make an announcement to the media, USATF and the local race organizers? Did any Oregon Project athlete confirm they were racing in any sort of social media or interview? Did any media or organizing committees ever reach out to the Oregon Project to see if they were in fact coming? It looks like the only thing the Oregon Project did was enter a few of their athletes, and this didn't include Rupp. Is there even a declaration process after entering the Club Cross? If not, they had no obligation to say whether they ultimately planned on going or not. Maybe they didn't know until yesterday. This falls on the local organizing committee, media (including Letsrun) and USATF. If they cared (probably don't), they should have confirmed that the Oregon Project was in fact racing and should have subsequently promoted and reported the heck out of this. Hey, at least the Oregon Project was kid enough to send out a tweet that they weren't going to run. Let's see if there are any other elite athletes that are no-shows from other training groups who didn't care to mention it to anyone.
There may be some history here RE Salzaar and awful XC courses. Back in the early 80's there was a national XC race in Pocatello Idaho that due to a previous night's weather was all mud bog from start to finish. Salzaar ran in that race IIRC, and afterward there was much criticism from participants and coaches who vowed they'd never run a XC meet in Pocatello again.

Because we allow real conversation to happen is the reason why we attracted more than 900,000 fans last month.
Oh my. Please enjoy:

How did the US team do at Worlds last year? Was anyone from the OP on the team? Nope. Ritz made the team but then decided not to make the trip to Poland.
I remember hearing about the team laughing at Ritz after they medaled.
How many men and women who have made World teams in the last five years in either the 5 or 10 or Steeple or X-C are running this race?
The winner, Joe Gray, has been a World Mountain Running champion.

This is too funny
You idiots make fun of the pace of trail runners and then you are too scared to even try a xc course that would be considered extremely easy by most trail runners.
We won't forget this the next time we see your idiocy posted about something you are too chicken to try.
That is kind of funny. However I wouldn't run a race like this either. I might run a 50 or 100 mile trail race, but not a 6 or 10k over rough terrain where everyone is of similar abilities, scrambling for position and knocking each other around.

Employee 1.1 is running in the race. After the NOP pullout, we texted him and asked him, "How bad is the ocurse?" He wrote back, "It's pretty bad to be honest. I would have been shocked if they ran. All up and down. NO FLAT. Some places you can go flying off course or down a hill. It's going to be a lot of fun."
I think more to the point is not why Olympic medalists are going to run with hobby joggers (laughable I think) but why would ANY athlete wanting to race in world Indoors even be thinking about cross country now?
The US nationals for the only international championship (that matters) held this year is in 2 months. If Lagat, Rupp, and Lomong enter the 3000, one of them isn't going to make it. It Leo, Centro, and Rupp enter the 1500, one of them is not going to make it. Same for Jenny, Mary Cain, and Shannon. Why would ANY of them even be thinking about XC now. They should be at least starting specific training for their event. That's what every decent NCAA athlete is doing now. Me too--getting ready to race in a month. Salazar's and Jerry's Kids often appear in the Washington Preview meet a month from right now. Running cross country--ANY cross country meet--makes no sense.
Nobody in the US makes a living from what they do in cross country.

Don't take it so personally. People across the globe rip our great country of the USA for the same reason (we have an awful lot) but secretly wish they could be a part of it. It's the same things in sports. Many fans rip the Yankees/NOP but if given the a part to be a part of it, they wouldn't turn it down.
Haha wtf. Do they rip the US because of Hollywood or their responsibility in hundreds of thousands of deaths.

Never mind that you can't "withdraw" from an event you've never planned on doing, never mind that club nats is a great event but the professional "baby nationals"...
You people realize "Nike Oregon Project" wouldn't even have 5 runners to make a team for club nats if they wanted?
Hes not confused or criticizing the NOP. He says he understands why they don't race, but are dissapointed as he wanted to seem them doing it.
Learn to read.
Who really cares. It is club nationals. Running is an individual sport. A great team is made of a bunch of individuals who all run their best. Maybe a few of the individuals did not want to run the race.
