WOW. New course record for a guy who has struggled with injuries his whole career. He just buried the field. You're awesome dude.

He ripped an 8:57 as a soph a few years ago, so he just had to finally be healthy.

He looked so relaxed and fast that last mile. True domination.
sub 9 as a sophomore. knew he could do it. big talent. nice race!
As a high schooler who has struggled with devastating injuries despite having that kind of talent, what a day for him it must be. Hats off to him.
Agreed...good read on him from earlier this year here by Bloom (http://www.runnersworld.com/high-school-profiles/kai-wilmot-returns-to-his-winning-ways). Didn't even get to put in a summer of base work or mileage and comes through with the win. Would have to imagine he's solidly in top 8 nationally right now (a group in my opinion that includes Templeton, Tanner Anderson, Hardy, Cerake, Fisher, Haney and Braude)
Absolutely biggest upset of the day.
Washington XC = Best XC, wow.
Kai wins in a stunner with a fantastic move from ~2k out, his teammate (and state champ) comes in 3rd behind Haney, a 3:44 guy, and both beat the pre-race favorite.
Efraimson kicks from 2-300m out & absolutely stomps all over Baxter and the 4:15 Cranny. Had it in the bag after about 5 steps when she made her move.
To top it off, Gig Harbor wins the boys race 111 to 139, that's almost 30 points, just crushing the field.
Where is wilmot looking to go to school? What about Hardy?
no sh1t hes in the "top 8". he just beat half the guys you mentioned
I heard from some people that kai has narrowed it down to either wisconsin or stanford.
Um, Maton much?

Which should translate to an 8:45 or faster this spring if he stays healthy.
Yes!
Wow, let's not get so excited about the JV race . . . he's not even top three in his own State. Good to see him running though, happy for the kid and hope he can stay healthy.
Except that he beat the state champ (teammate Anderson) and demolished the entire field including a 3:44 1500 guy. But go ahead and tell yourself it didn't matter.

That's what 90 mile weeks will do for you. Too bad more HS coaches and kids don't realize that.

Maton may have won his race today. But come FL Finals, he won't be even close to the top FL West finisher. Hardy and Dressel will wipe the floor with him. Both those two JOGGED today.
Wilmot and Anderson could crush Maton easy.
North Central has had so many good teams and individuals. It is ridiculous what they can do.

High volume quality mileage with decent talent translates into national success.
Anyone who has been following this kid shouldn't be surprised by this. Just look what he did last year! He hadn't ran in MONTHS only swam and biked a little bit and he finished 32nd overall in the mud and slop. 8:56 as a sophomore and the beginning of his senior year when he was on fire he was killing records and running some great times.
Proud of this kid for finally doing what he has been meaning to do for ages.
Next year teammate Tanner Anderson will take the crown.
He said something about not being satisfied unless he went for it, even if he didn't win. This kid is awesome.
